Mariner 10 Hp Viking Troubleshooting
Engine hard to start or doesn't start |
Empty gas tank - Add gasoline.
Improper fuel grade - Use quality fuel.
Dirty fuel lines - Inspect and clean.
Loose or disconnected spark plug wire - Check spark plug wiring connection, repair or change.
Faulty spark plug - Replace spark plug.
Plugged fuel filter - Fuel filter needs changing.
Carburetor is not working properly - Inspect and adjust.
Dirt in the fuel lines - Fuel lines must be clean.
Fuel tank air vent closed or restricted - Open or service air vent.
Low fuel pump pressure - Replace or repair fuel pump.
Engine starts but stalls immediately |
Spark plug is defective - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Carburetor is defective or clogged - Service or change carburetor.
Ignition coil is not working - Ignition coil must be replaced.
Fuel tank air vent restricted or closed - Open or service air vent.
Fuel pump pressure is low - Install new pump or repair it.
Defective thermal relief valve - Replace if necessary.
Irregular engine running |
Defective ignition - Check ignition system and replace faulty parts.
Fuel pump is defective or dirty - Check fuel pump and change if required.
Carburetor incorrectly set - Set carb correctly.
Fuel lines are clogged - Fuel lines need to be cleaned.
Fuel tank air vent closed or restricted - Open or service air vent.
Dirty fuel filter - Replace fuel filter.
Damaged gaskets - Replace gaskets.
Engine keeps overheating |
Engine is overloaded - Reduce engine load.
Too lean fuel mixture in carburetor - Adjust carburetor properly.
Ignition timing is wrong - Set the ignition timing properly.
Damaged thermostat - Thermostat need to be replaced.
Defective water pump - Replace water pump.
Engine noise or knocking |
Stale fuel - Change gasoline.
Engine overloaded - Load reducing is recommended.
Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Test and adjust.
Clogged or defective fuel pump - Check fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Crankshaft or main bearings wear - Install new parts as as required.
Worn cylinder bore or piston rings - Change defective parts.
Engine power is too low |
Dirty or improperly adjusted carburetor - Adjust the carburetor properly or clean it.

Engine uses too much fuel |
Carburetor main jet is incorrectly adjusted - Adjust the carburetor main jet properly.
Spark plug is faulty or loose - Spark plug need to be replaced or tightened.
Worn sleeve, rings, or piston - Replace faulty parts.
Trim motor is running but system can't move |
Oil insufficient - Fill up oil.
Pump assembly is defective - Check pump and replace if necessary.
Manual shut-off valve leaks - Valve need to be closed or changed.
Pump driveshaft or motor damaged - Change defective component.
Trim cannot be fully up or down |
Pump assembly faulty - Change pump.
Tilt ram piston ball is not positioned correctly - Clean or repair.
Tilt ram piston O-ring is worn - Change O-ring.
Oil level is low - Fill up oil.
Lower check valve not seating in port side trim ram - Secure valve properly.
