Mercury 15 ProKicker Troubleshooting
Engine difficult to start or will not start |
No fuel in fuel tank - Fill fuel up.
Low-quality gasoline - Change gasoline.
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Damaged spark plug wiring connection - Inspect spark plug wiring connection, change or repair.
Spark plug is damaged - Replace spark plug.
Fuel filter is dirty - Fuel filter needs to be replaced.
Restricted fuel lines - Clean fuel lines.
Discharged or worn battery - Change or recharge battery.
Damaged wiring harness connections - Check wiring harness connections.
Ignition system is damaged - Check ignition system components and change if necessary.
Defective pulse fuel pump - Replace pulse fuel pump.
Electric fuel pump failure - Electric fuel pump need to be replaced.
ECM failure - Replace ECM.
Engine starts but then shuts off |
Faulty spark plug - Change spark plug.
Ignition coil is faulty - Replace ignition coil as necessary.
Damaged pulse fuel pump - Change pulse fuel pump.
Fuel system clogging - Clean fuel system.
Final fuel filter is dirty - Final filter needs changing.
Electric fuel pump failure - Change electric fuel pump as required.
Unstable engine running |
Ignition failure - Check ignition and replace faulty components.
Dirty or faulty fuel pump - Test fuel pump and change if necessary.
Dirt in the fuel lines - Fuel lines must be clean.
Plugged fuel filter - Fuel filter needs changing.
Engine overheating |
Engine overload - Reduce engine load.
Bad ignition timing - Adjust ignition timing correctly.
Thermostat failure - Install new thermostat.
Faulty water pump - Water pump need to be replaced.
Abnormal engine knocking or noise |
Stale gasoline - Use proper fuel.
Engine overload - Load reducing is recommended.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Correct idle settings.
Dirty or faulty fuel pump - Clean or install new fuel pump.
Crankshaft or main bearings are worn out - Worn parts replacement required.
Piston rings or cylinder bore are worn - Replace faulty components.
Engine power is insufficient |
Dirty or faulty fuel pump - Clean or replace fuel pump.
Ignition failure - Check ignition and replace faulty components.
Worn powerhead parts - Change defective parts.
Stator, coil, or switch box defective - Change faulty components.
Compression is insufficient - Normalize compression.
Fuel supply problem - Check and repair.
Manifold fuel leak - Leak must be repaired.
Vapor separator flooding over - Normalize vapor separator functions.
Engine using too much gasoline |
Spark plug is faulty or loose - Change or re-tighten spark plug.
Worn sleeve, piston, or rings - Replace faulty components.
Engine overloaded - Reduce the load.
Fuel injectors are damaged or dirty - Check fuel injectors and change if required.
Trim motor runs but system does not move |
Oil insufficient - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Pump assembly is defective - Check pump and replace if necessary.
Manual shut-off valve leaks - Valve need to be closed or changed.
Broken motor or pump driveshaft - Replace defective component.
Trim does not fully up or down |
Defective pump assembly - Change pump.
Tilt ram piston ball is in wrong position - Clean or repair.
Damaged tilt ram piston O-ring - Install new O-ring.
Not enough oil - Check and refill oil.
Lower check valve is not properly secured in port side trim ram - Secure valve properly.
