Mercury 30 ELPT Troubleshooting
Engine hard to start or will not start |
No gasoline in tank - Add gasoline.
Wrong fuel grade - Use correct fuel grade.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Spark plug wiring connection is defective - Inspect spark plug wiring connection, change or repair.
Spark plug is faulty - Install new spark plug.
Fuel filter is plugged - Change fuel filter.
Clogged fuel lines - Clean fuel system lines.
Drained or defective battery - Charge or change the battery.
Damaged electrical wire harness - Inspect harness connections.
Ignition system malfunction - Replace defective components.
Pulse fuel pump is faulty - Replace pulse fuel pump.
Electric fuel pump is faulty - Electric fuel pump need to be replaced.
Electronic control modul failure - Install new ECM.
Engine starts and stalls immediately |
Spark plug is damaged - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Damaged ignition coil - Replace ignition coil as necessary.
Defective pulse fuel pump - Install new pulse fuel pump.
Fuel system clogging - Clean fuel system.
Dirty final fuel filter - Final filter needs changing.
Faulty electric fuel pump - Replace electric fuel pump.
Engine runs irregularly |
Ignition system problems - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Fuel pump is clogged or faulty - Test fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Fuel lines are dirty - Clean fuel system lines.
Fuel filter is dirty - Fuel filter needs changing.
Engine overheated |
Engine is running overloaded - Load reducing required.
Ignition timing is incorrect - Adjust ignition timing correctly.
Damaged thermostat - Thermostat need to be replaced.
Defective water pump - Change water pump.
Engine noises or knocks |
Low octane fuel - Use correct fuel.
Engine overloaded - Load reducing is recommended.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Correct idle settings.
Fuel pump is defective or dirty - Inspect fuel pump and change as required.
Crankshaft or main bearings failure - Repair or replace defective parts.
Worn cylinder bore or piston rings - Replace defective parts.
Engine lacks power |
Fuel pump is damaged or dirty - Service or replace fuel pump.
Ignition failure - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Damaged powerhead parts - Replace defective parts.
Failed switch box, stator, or coil - Replace faulty parts.
Compression is insufficient - Correct.
Fuel delivery problem - Check fuel system.
Manifold fuel leak - Leak must be repaired.
Vapor separator flooding over - Normalize vapor separator functions.
Engine using too much gasoline |
Loose or faulty spark plug - Tighten or replace spark plug.
Rings, sleeve, or piston are damaged - Replace faulty parts as required.
Engine is overloaded - Reduce load.
Fuel injectors are defective or dirty - Service or change fuel injectors.
Trim motor runs but system does not move |
Low oil level - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Pump assembly is defective - Inspect pump and change as required.
Manual release valve leaking - Valve need to be closed or changed.
Faulty pump driveshaft or motor - Replace defective component.
Trim does not fully up or down |
Pump assembly is damaged - Change pump.
Tilt ram piston ball is in wrong position - Service or repair.
Tilt ram piston O-ring damaged - Change O-ring.
Not enough oil - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Lower check valve is not properly secured in port side trim ram - Secure valve properly.
