Mercury 60 ELPT Troubleshooting
Engine difficult to start or doesn't start |
No gasoline in tank - Fill gasoline up.
Low-quality gasoline - Change gasoline.
Clogged fuel system - Remove clogging.
Defective spark plug wire connection - Check the spark plug wire connection, repair or replace.
Spark plug is damaged - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Fuel filter is dirty - Change fuel filter.
Fuel lines clogging - Fuel lines need to be cleaned.
Discharged or defective battery - Recharge or change battery.
Bad harness connections - Check wiring harness connections.
Ignition system failure - Check ignition system components and change if necessary.
Pulse fuel pump failure - Install new pulse fuel pump.
Defective electric fuel pump - Change electric fuel pump.
ECM failure - Install new ECM.
Engine starts but stalls immediately |
Spark plug is damaged - Change spark plug.
Ignition coil is damaged - Install a new ignition coil.
Pulse fuel pump is faulty - Pulse fuel pump need to be replaced.
Fuel system clogging - Service fuel system.
Dirty final fuel filter - Replace fuel filter.
Electric fuel pump failure - Electric fuel pump need to be replaced.
Engine runs roughly |
Ignition system problems - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Fuel pump is damaged or dirty - Clean or install new fuel pump.
Clogged fuel lines - Clean fuel system lines.
Fuel filter is dirty - Install new filter.
Engine overheats |
Engine is running overloaded - Reduce engine load.
Wrong ignition timing - Set the ignition timing properly.
Damaged thermostat - Change thermostat as required.
Water pump failure - Replace water pump.
Engine knocking sound or abnormal noise |
Stale gasoline - Use proper fuel.
Engine is under excessive load - Load reducing required.
Too low idle RPM - Test and adjust.
Fuel pump is damaged or dirty - Clean or change fuel pump.
Main bearings or crankshaft are worn out - Install new parts as as required.
Piston rings or cylinder bore are damaged - Replace defective parts.
Engine power is too low |
Fuel pump is faulty or clogged - Inspect fuel pump and change as required.
Ignition system malfunction - Test ignition and replace failed parts.
Damaged powerhead parts - Replace defective parts.
Stator, coil, or switch box defective - Change damaged parts.
Compression is insufficient - Normalize compression.
Fuel delivery problem - Check fuel system.
Manifold is leaking - Repair leaks.
Vapor separator flooding over - Check and correct malfunction.
Engine using too much gasoline |
Spark plug is loose or defective - Tighten or change the spark plug.
Sleeve, piston, or rings are damaged - Replace faulty components.
Engine is under excessive load - Load reducing is recommended.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Check fuel injectors and change if required.
Trim motor runs but system does not move |
Oil insufficient - Need to add the oil.
Defective pump assembly - Check pump and change if required.
Manual shut-off valve leaks - Valve need to be closed or changed.
Pump driveshaft or motor damaged - Replace worn component.
Trim does not fully up or down |
Pump assembly faulty - Replace pump.
Tilt ram piston ball is in wrong position - Clean or repair.
Damaged tilt ram piston O-ring - Install new O-ring.
Lack of oil - Fill up oil.
Lower check valve is not properly secured in port side trim ram - Secure valve properly.
