Engine starts hard or doesn't start

Diesel shuts off while driving

Improper fuel injection timing - Adjust as recommended.
Dirty fuel filter - Replace filter element.
Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.

Engine stalls at low idle speed

Low idle speed set incorrectly - Need to adjust idle speed.
Valve out of adjustment - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Install a new pump or rebuild.

Engine power is too low

Clogged injection nozzle - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Clogged fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel system lines and hoses.
Plugged air cleaner - Change air filter element.
Worn cylinder head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.

Engine overheating

Dirty radiator fins or faulty radiator cap - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Low engine coolant - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Damaged or worn fan belt - Install new fan belt.
Insufficient engine oil - Need to add engine oil.

Low oil pressure

Not enough oil in the engine - Fill the crankcase with oil.
Oil pump failure - Replace as required.
Oil filter clogged - Change or clean engine oil filter element.

High engine oil consumption

Oil leakage: Gaskets or seals are excessively worn - Replace to repair leaks.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Piston rings are seized or worn - Replace piston rings.
Valve stems and guides are worn - Valves replacement required.
Cylinder liners or pistons are scuffed - Inspect pistons and liners, fit new components as necessary.

Engine noise or knocking

Engine not warmed up - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Engine oil level is low - Need to add engine oil.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust according to specifications.
Piston wear or scoring - Have pistons replaced.

Starter cranks slowly

Battery discharges quickly - Service charging system or replace battery.

Starter does not work
