Mariner 60 EFI Troubleshooting
Engine won't start or starts hard |
No gasoline in tank - Add fuel.
Incorrect fuel grade - Use quality gasoline.
Water or air in fuel system - Remove air or water from system.
Defective spark plug wire connection - Check spark plug wiring connection, repair or change.
Defective spark plug - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Plugged fuel filter - Fuel filter needs to be replaced.
Clogged fuel lines - Clean fuel lines.
Discharged or faulty battery - Charge or replace the battery.
Bad harness connections - Check wiring harness connections.
Damaged ignition system - Change defective parts.
Damaged pulse fuel pump - Change pulse fuel pump as required.
Electric fuel pump is faulty - Change electric fuel pump as required.
Electronic control modul failure - Install new ECM.
Engine starts but immediately stops |
Defective spark plug - Replace spark plug.
Ignition coil is defective - Ignition coil should be replaced.
Defective pulse fuel pump - Change pulse fuel pump.
Restrictions in fuel system - Service fuel system.
Plugged final fuel filter - Change final filter.
Faulty electric fuel pump - Change electric fuel pump.
Irregular engine running |
Defective ignition - Inspect ignition system and change faulty parts.
Fuel pump is dirty or defective - Check fuel pump and change if required.
Clogged fuel lines - Service fuel lines.
Plugged fuel filter - Fuel filter needs changing.
Engine is overheated |
Engine overloaded - Reduce load.
Improper ignition timing - Set the ignition timing properly.
Faulty thermostat - Replace thermostat.
Defective water pump - Change water pump as required.
Engine noise or knocking |
Low octane gasoline - Use correct gasoline.
Engine overload - Load reducing required.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Adjust the low idle speed.
Dirty or faulty fuel pump - Clean or replace fuel pump.
Worn main bearings or crankshaft - Crankshaft or bearings need to be replaced.
Cylinder bore or piston rings are damaged - Change defective components.
Lack of engine power |
Fuel pump is dirty or defective - Test fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Ignition failure - Check ignition and replace faulty components.
Faulty powerhead parts - Change defective parts.
Failed switch box, stator, or coil - Change damaged parts.
Low compression - Correct.
Fuel supply problem - Check and repair.
Manifold is leaking - Leak must be repaired.
Vapor separator flooding over - Normalize vapor separator functions.
Excessive fuel consumption |
Defective or loose spark plug - Re-tighten or replace spark plug.
Piston, sleeve, or rings are damaged - Change faulty components.
Engine overload - Reduce load.
Fuel injectors are clogged or faulty - Service or change fuel injectors.
Trim motor is running but system can't move |
Low oil level - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Pump assembly faulty - Check pump and change if required.
Leakage of manual drain valve - Valve need to be closed or changed.
Broken motor or pump driveshaft - Change worn component.
Trim cannot be fully up or down |
Pump assembly faulty - Change pump as required.
Tilt ram piston ball is not positioned correctly - Service or repair.
Tilt ram piston O-ring damaged - Replace O-ring.
Not enough oil - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Lower check valve not seating in port side trim ram - Secure valve properly.
