Mercury 20 ProKicker Troubleshooting
Engine will not start or difficult to start |
No fuel in fuel tank - Add gasoline.
Low-quality gasoline - Use quality fuel.
Clogged fuel system - Remove clogging.
Damaged spark plug wiring connection - Inspect the spark plug wire connection, replace or repair.
Spark plug is defective - Install new spark plug.
Fuel filter is dirty - Install new filter.
Dirty fuel lines - Clean fuel lines.
Discharged or defective battery - Recharge or change battery.
Damaged wiring harness connections - Inspect harness connections.
Ignition system failure - Check ignition components and replace if necessary.
Pulse fuel pump is defective - Change pulse fuel pump as required.
Electric fuel pump failure - Electric fuel pump need to be replaced.
ECM failure - Replace ECM.
Engine stops after starting |
Spark plug is defective - Change spark plug as required.
Defective ignition coil - Replace ignition coil as necessary.
Damaged pulse fuel pump - Install new pulse fuel pump.
Restrictions in fuel system - Service fuel system.
Final fuel filter is dirty - Final filter needs to be replaced.
Electric fuel pump is faulty - Change electric fuel pump as required.
Engine runs unevenly |
Defective ignition system - Inspect ignition system and change faulty parts.
Clogged or damaged fuel pump - Check fuel pump and change if required.
Fuel lines clogging - Fuel lines must be clean.
Dirty fuel filter - Change fuel filter.
Engine keeps overheating |
Excessive engine load - Load reducing required.
Ignition timing is incorrect - Adjust ignition timing correctly.
Thermostat failure - Replace thermostat.
Defective water pump - Install new water pump.
Engine noise or knocking |
Stale or low octane fuel - Change fuel.
Engine is under excessive load - Reduce the load.
Too low idle RPM - Adjustment required.
Clogged or damaged fuel pump - Clean or install new fuel pump.
Crankshaft or main bearings are worn out - Change or repair worn components.
Piston rings or cylinder bore are damaged - Replace defective parts.
Engine power is insufficient |
Fuel pump is damaged or dirty - Service or change fuel pump.
Ignition system problems - Inspect ignition system and change faulty parts.
Faulty powerhead components - Replace defective components as required.
Failed switch box, stator, or coil - Change damaged parts.
Bad compression - Correct.
Fuel supply problem - Check and repair.
Manifold is leaking - Leak must be repaired.
Vapor separator is flooded - Normalize vapor separator functions.
Excessive fuel consumption |
Loose or defective spark plug - Spark plug need to be tightened or replaced.
Piston, sleeve, or rings are damaged - Change defective parts.
Engine is running overloaded - Load reducing required.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Clean or change fuel injectors.
Trim motor is running but system can't move |
Oil level low - Check and refill oil.
Defective pump assembly - Test pump and change if necessary.
Manual release valve leaking - Close the valve fully or replace it.
Pump driveshaft or motor damaged - Replace worn component.
Trim does not fully up or down |
Defective pump assembly - Replace pump.
Tilt ram piston ball is in wrong position - Service or repair.
Worn tilt ram piston O-ring - Replace O-ring.
Oil insufficient - Fill up oil to required level.
Lower check valve not seating in port side trim ram - Secure valve properly.
