Mercury 50 ELPT Troubleshooting
Engine hard to start or won't start |
Gas tank is empty - Fill fuel up.
Wrong grade of gasoline - Use correct fuel grade.
Clogged fuel system - Remove clogging.
Loose or disconnected spark plug wire - Check spark plug wiring connection, repair or change.
Spark plug is faulty - Change spark plug as required.
Fuel filter is clogged - Change fuel filter.
Dirt in the fuel lines - Fuel lines must be clean.
Drained or faulty battery - Replace or charge as required.
Damaged electrical wire harness - Check electrical wire harness connections.
Ignition system failure - Replace defective components.
Pulse fuel pump is faulty - Replace pulse fuel pump.
Damaged electric fuel pump - Replace electric fuel pump.
ECM failure - Replace ECM.
Engine starts and stops |
Spark plug is damaged - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Ignition coil is faulty - Change ignition coil as required.
Pulse fuel pump failure - Install new pulse fuel pump.
Fuel system clogging - Service fuel system.
Plugged final fuel filter - Change final filter.
Electric fuel pump is faulty - Change electric fuel pump as required.
Irregular engine running |
Defective ignition - Inspect ignition system and change faulty parts.
Clogged or defective fuel pump - Check fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Clogged fuel lines - Fuel lines must be clean.
Fuel filter is dirty - Change fuel filter.
Engine is overheated |
Engine overloaded - Reduce load.
Improper ignition timing - Set the ignition timing properly.
Thermostat is faulty - Thermostat need to be replaced.
Water pump malfunction - Install new water pump.
Engine noise or knocking |
Low octane gasoline - Change fuel.
Engine overload - Load reducing is recommended.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Correct the settings.
Dirty or faulty fuel pump - Check fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Crankshaft or main bearings failure - Change or repair worn components.
Piston rings or cylinder bore are damaged - Replace defective components.
Low engine power |
Fuel pump is defective or dirty - Clean or change fuel pump.
Ignition system is defective - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Worn powerhead parts - Defective parts need to be replaced.
Stator, coil, or switch box defective - Replace damaged components.
Bad compression - Correct.
Fuel delivery problem - Check and repair.
Manifold fuel leak - Repair leaks.
Vapor separator is flooded - Normalize vapor separator functions.
Engine using too much gasoline |
Faulty or loose spark plug - Tighten or replace spark plug.
Worn rings, piston, or sleeve - Replace faulty components as required.
Engine overloaded - Load reducing is recommended.
Fuel injectors are defective or dirty - Check fuel injectors and change if required.
Trim motor is running but system can't move |
Low oil level - Check and refill oil.
Damaged pump assembly - Check pump and change if required.
Manual shut-off valve leaks - Valve need to be closed or changed.
Pump driveshaft or motor damaged - Replace defective component.
Trim cannot be fully up or down |
Pump assembly is damaged - Change pump as required.
Tilt ram piston ball is not positioned correctly - Clean or repair.
Worn tilt ram piston O-ring - Install new O-ring.
Lack of oil - Need to add the oil.
Lower check valve not seating in port side trim ram - Install valve correctly.
