Mercury 6 Hp Troubleshooting
Engine won't start or starts hard |
No fuel in fuel tank - Add fuel.
Wrong fuel grade - Use quality fuel.
Clogged fuel system - Remove clogging.
Spark plug wiring connection is damaged - Inspect the spark plug wire connection, replace or repair.
Spark plug is faulty - Change spark plug.
Fuel filter is plugged - Replace fuel filter.
Carburetor is not working properly - Inspect and adjust.
Clogged fuel lines - Fuel lines must be clean.
Fuel tank air vent clogged or closed - Open or clean air vent.
Lack of fuel pump pressure - Repair or change fuel pump.
Engine starts but stalls immediately |
Spark plug is faulty - Replace spark plug.
Defective or clogged carburetor - Clean or install new carburetor.
Ignition coil is faulty - Change ignition coil as required.
Fuel tank air vent restricted or closed - Open or clean air vent.
Lack of fuel pump pressure - Repair or change fuel pump.
Faulty thermal relief valve - Change as required.
Irregular engine running |
Ignition system problems - Check ignition system and replace faulty parts.
Fuel pump is faulty or clogged - Check fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Carburetor is not working properly - Inspect and adjust.
Fuel lines clogging - Fuel lines must be clean.
Fuel tank air vent restricted or closed - Open or clean air vent.
Fuel filter is plugged - Fuel filter needs changing.
Gaskets are defective - Change gaskets.
Engine keeps overheating |
Engine overload - Load reducing required.
Carburetor is running lean - Adjust carburetor correctly.
Ignition timing is wrong - Adjust ignition timing correctly.
Faulty thermostat - Install new thermostat.
Water pump is defective - Water pump need to be replaced.
Engine knocking sound or abnormal noise |
Low octane fuel - Use correct gasoline.
Engine is under excessive load - Reduce load.
Too low idle RPM - Correct idle adjustment.
Fuel pump is faulty or clogged - Clean or replace fuel pump.
Main bearings or crankshaft failure - Need to install new components.
Damaged piston rings or cylinder bore - Change faulty components.
Engine lacks power |
Carburetor is improperly adjusted or clogged - Service or correctly adjust carburetor.
Fuel pump is clogged or faulty - Clean or install new fuel pump.
Defective ignition system - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Gaskets are damaged - Replace gaskets.
Powerhead components are damaged - Change defective components.
Engine uses too much fuel |
Carburetor main jet is improperly adjusted - Adjust it correctly.
Defective or loose spark plug - Tighten or replace spark plug.
Worn rings, piston, or sleeve - Replace faulty parts as required.
Trim motor runs but system does not move |
Oil level is low - Need to add the oil.
Pump assembly is defective - Check pump and replace if necessary.
Leakage of manual drain valve - Close the valve or change it.
Pump driveshaft or motor damaged - Change defective component.
Trim cannot be fully up or down |
Defective pump assembly - Change pump.
Tilt ram piston ball is in wrong position - Clean or repair.
Tilt ram piston O-ring damaged - Change O-ring.
Oil level is insufficient - Fill up oil to required level.
Lower check valve not seating in port side trim ram - Secure valve properly.
