Nissan A13 Troubleshooting

Engine will not start or starts up hard

Empty gas tank - Fill fuel up.
Incorrect fuel grade - Use correct gasoline grade.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Spark plug wiring connection is defective - Check spark plug wiring connection, repair or change.
Spark plug is faulty - Change spark plug as required.
Ignition system is defective - Test ignition and replace failed parts.
Fuel filter is plugged - Fuel filter needs changing.
Fuel lines clogging - Clean fuel system lines.
Fuel pump is dirty or defective - Check fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Carburetor is not adjusted - Check carburetor float adjustment.
Poor engine compression - Check cylinder block and replace damaged components.

Engine runs irregularly

Ignition system failure - Inspect ignition system and change faulty parts.
Air filter is blocked - Clean or replace.
Faulty spark plug - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Clogged or defective fuel pump - Test fuel pump and change if necessary.
Improper valve clearance - Check and adjust.
Incorrect ignition timing - Ignition timing needs to be adjusted correctly.

Engine starts but then stops

Defective spark plug - Replace spark plug.

Engine overheats

Low cylinder compression - Check cylinder block and replace worn parts.

Excessive oil consumption

Gaskets or seals can be faulty - Replace worn parts to avoid leaks.
Worn valve stems and valve guides - Valves replacement required.
Stuck or worn piston rings - Replace piston rings.
Piston or cylinder liner is scuffed - Check piston and liner, install new parts as required.

Engine backfires

Carburetor fuel mixture is too lean - Adjust carburetor correctly.
