Suzuki DF15 Troubleshooting
The Suzuki DF15 is a 4-stroke 2-cylinder SOHC (overhead cam) gasoline outboard engine with a rated power of 15 hp (11 kW) at 5400-6000 rpm. The engine cylinder bore is 2.28" (58 mm) and piston stroke is 2.24" (57 mm). A 18.4 cubic inches (302 cc) outboard motor has a carburetor fuel system, wet sump lubrication by trochoid pump, starting system with recoil or electric starter, pointless electronic ignition system, manual tilt and tiller handle or remote control steering. The fuel tank capacity is 3.2 gal (12 liters). The propeller is made of aluminum and it has three blades.

Fuel tank is empty - Fill fuel up.
Incorrect fuel grade - Change fuel.
Dirt and debris in fuel system - Remove debris and dirt.
Damaged spark plug wiring connection - Check spark plug wiring connection, repair or change.

Dirty fuel filter - Change fuel filter.
Carburetor is not working properly - Inspect and adjust.
Dirty fuel lines - Clean fuel system lines.
Fuel tank air vent closed or restricted - Open or clean air vent.
Defective fuel pump - Install new pump or repair it.
Throttle cable is worn or adjusted improperly - Change cable or adjust correctly.
Improper valve clearance - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Valve timing is improper - Set the valve timing correctly.

Clogged or defective carburetor - Clean or replace carburetor.
Ignition coil is defective - Ignition coil must be replaced.
Closed or clogged fuel tank air vent - Fuel tank air vent need to be opened or cleaned.
Fuel pump malfunction - Replace or rebuild fuel pump.
Choke system malfunction - Check and repair choke system.
Incorrect valve clearance - Check and adjust.
Valve timing is improper - Adjust valve timing as required.
Valve springs are bad or broken - Replace valve springs.
Valves are stuck - Clean the valves.

Oil pump failure - Replace oil pump.
Water intake is blocked - Clean and wash as required.
Valve setting is wrong - Set the valves correctly.

Powerhead parts are damaged - Replace defective parts.
Stuck or burned valves - Service or change valves.
Propeller pitch or diameter incorrect - Check the propeller size.
Damaged or bent propeller - Replace propeller.
Motor mounted at incorrect height on transom - Check the outboard motor mounting height.
Incorrect trim angle - Adjust trim angle correctly.

Carburetor main jet adjustment is improper - Adjust main jet as required.
Spark plug is defective or loose - Tighten or change the spark plug.
Worn sleeve, piston, or rings - Change defective components.
| Excessive engine vibration |
Damaged or bent propeller - Have propeller repaired or replaced.
Propeller shaft malfunction - Replace propeller shaft.
Weeds clogs the propeller - Remove weeds from propeller.
Motor mounting bolt is loose - Tighten bolt.
Steering pivot is faulty or loose Tighten correctly or replace.
| Starter is not working |
Low battery power - Battery is drained, charge it.
Battery discharges quickly - Service charging system or install new battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or terminals are faulty - Check wire connections and change or service terminals.
Starter motor is damaged - Starter needs to be replaced.
