Suzuki DF30A Troubleshooting
The Suzuki DF30A is a 4-stroke 3-cylinder SOHC (single overhead cam) gasoline outboard engine with a rated power of 30 hp (22.1 kW) at 5300-6300 rpm. The engine cylinder bore is 2.38" (60.4 mm) and piston stroke is 2.24" (57 mm). A 29.9 cubic inches (490 cc) outboard motor has an electronic fuel injection system, integral fuel pump type, wet sump lubrication system, starting system with recoil or electric starter, capacitor discharge ignition system, manual or power tilt, and tiller handle or remote control steering. The fuel tank capacity is 6.6 gal (25 liters). The propeller is made of aluminum and it has three blades.

| Engine difficult to start or doesn't start |
Empty gas tank - Fill it up.
Low-quality gasoline - Use quality gasoline.
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Damaged spark plug wiring connection - Inspect the spark plug wire connection, replace or repair.
Damaged spark plug - Change spark plug as required.
Fuel filter is clogged - Change fuel filter.
Worn or defective vapor separator needle valve - Change vapor separator needle valve.
Fuel lines are dirty - Fuel lines must be clean.
Closed or restricted fuel tank air vent - Fuel tank air vent need to be opened or cleaned.
Faulty fuel feed pump - Replace or repair fuel pump.
Choke cable is worn or not adjusted properly - Adjust properly or change the cable.
Valve clearance is not correct - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Improper valve timing - Adjust valve timing as required.
Fuel pressure is low - Check system for fuel leaks or check low pressure fuel pump.
Fuel injector is dirty or worn - Clean or replace as required.
Fuel regulator is faulty - Replace fuel regulator.
ECM is not functioning - Change electronic control modul.

Spark plug is damaged - Change spark plug.
Vapor separator needle valve is bend or wear - Install new needle valve.
Ignition coil is faulty - Ignition coil should be replaced.
Closed or restricted fuel tank air vent - Open or service air vent.
Faulty fuel pump - Install new pump or repair it.
Faulty choke system - Check and repair choke system.
Valve clearance is not correct - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Incorrect valve timing - Adjust valve timing as required.
Bad or broken valve springs - Change valve springs.
Stuck valves - Clean the valves.
Bad compression - Check and replace worn parts.
Dirty fuel filter - Change fuel filter.
Fuel injector is dirty or worn - Clean or replace if necessary.
Engine oil insufficient - Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
Oil pump is defective - Change oil pump as required.
Water intake is clogged - Need to clean or wash.
Damaged thermostat - Change thermostat as required.
Water pump malfunction - Install new water pump.

Throttle link and throttle valve are worn or damaged - Replace faulty components.
Clogged or worn fuel injector - Clean or install new injector.

Engine is overloaded - Reduce load.
Fuel pump or fuel injector is dirty - Replace or clean as required.
Ignition timing is incorrect - Ignition timing needs to be adjusted correctly.
Damaged thermostat - Change thermostat as required.
Defective water pump - Replace water pump.
Improper propeller diameter or pitch - Install correct propeller.
Damaged or bent propeller - Replace propeller.
Outboard engine is positioned too low or too high - Mount the motor as required.
Lack of engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Defective oil pump - Replace oil pump.
Clogged water intake - Need to clean or wash.
Valve setting is improper - Set the valves correctly.

Damaged or bent propeller - Replace propeller.
Propeller shaft malfunction - Have propeller shaft replaced.
Weeds clogs the propeller - Remove weeds from propeller.
Engine mounting bolt is not tightened - Tighten the bolt as required.
Damaged or loose steering pivot Tighten correctly or replace.

Low battery voltage - Battery is drained, charge it.
Battery is not holding charge - Service charging system or replace battery.
Corroded battery terminals or disconnected wires - Check cable connections and replace or service terminals.
Defective starter motor - Replace or repair starter.

Oil level is low - Check and refill oil.
Pump assembly is defective - Check pump and replace if necessary.
Manual release valve leaking - Close the valve fully or replace it.
Motor or pump driveshaft faulty - Change worn component.

Defective pump assembly - Change pump.
Tilt ram piston ball is displaced - Service or repair.
Tilt ram piston O-ring damaged - Change O-ring.
Oil insufficient - Fill up oil.
Lower check valve is not properly secured in port side trim ram - Install valve correctly.
