Engine starts up hard or won't start |
Dirty fuel filter - Filter maintenance required.
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Valve timing is wrong - Adjust or change timing gear.
Restricted fuel pipes - Clean or replace fuel pipes.
Improper injection timing - Check injection timing adjustment.
Excessive wear of piston rings and cylinder - Replace faulty components.
Engine starts but then stops |
Fuel filter element is clogged - Service or replace the filter.
Defective fuel injection pump - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Dirty air filter element - Replace air filter element.
Unadjusted nozzle opening pressure - Set it correctly.
Engine stops unexpectedly during operation |
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Fuel filter element clogging - Clean or replace the filter.
Engine is cold - Warm up engine as required.
Injection nozzles are stuck or clogged - Service or change injection nozzles.
Engine stops when idle |
Too low idle RPM - Adjustment required.
Excessive valve clearance - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.
Poor engine power |
Defective or clogged injection nozzle - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Fuel hoses or lines are clogged - Service fuel lines and hoses.
Air filter clogged - Service or replace the air filter.
Cylinder-head gasket is leaking - Change cylinder head gasket.
Injection timing is incorrect - Check injection timing adjustment.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Repair or change injection pump.
One of moving engine components has failed - Replace or repair damaged components.
Engine overheated |
Dirty radiator core or defective radiator cap - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Engine coolant is insufficient - Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks.
Fan belt is worn or faulty - Replace the fan belt.
Engine oil level is insufficient - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Leaking cylinder head gasket - Replace the gasket as required.
Improper injection timing - Set up as recommended.
Oil pressure is insufficient |
Engine oil level low - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Defective oil pump - Check and replace if necessary.
Oil filter is dirty - Replace or clean engine oil filter element.
Worn or dirty relief valve - Change or service relief valve.
Crankshaft bearing clearance is excessive - Inspect and replace or repair faulty components.
Crankpin bearing clearance is excessive - Inspect and replace or repair faulty parts.
Engine consuming too much oil |
External oil leaks: Seals or gaskets are defective - To repair leaks, replace worn parts.
Oil viscosity is wrong - Use proper viscosity oil.
Stuck or worn piston rings - Piston rings need to be replaced.
Valve stems or guides are damaged - Replace the valves.
Scored pistons or cylinder liners - Inspect pistons and liners, fit new components as necessary.
Engine noises or knocks |
Low coolant temperature - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Lack of engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust as recommended.
Pistons are worn or scored - Have pistons replaced.
Faulty or misaligned connecting rod - Need to change or align the connecting rod.
Starter motor cranks slow |
Low battery power - Battery is drained, charge it.
Battery won’t hold charge - Service charging system or install new battery.
Battery terminals are corroded or wires are disconnected - Connect wires properly or change terminals.
Starter motor is not working |
Battery is low or faulty - Battery needs to be recharged or replaced.
Wiring is incorrectly connected or disconnected - Inspect wiring and connect correctly.
Battery voltage is low - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Starter motor is faulty - Repair or replace starter.
