Engine difficult to start or will not start |
Dirty fuel filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Damaged or dirty injection nozzles - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Fuel injection pump failure - Change pump or rebuild it.
Valve timing is incorrect - Correct or change timing gear.
Clogged fuel pipes - Clean fuel pipes.
Injection timing is wrong - Adjust as recommended.
Piston rings and cylinder are worn - Change faulty parts.
Engine starts and immediately shuts off |
Dirty fuel filter - Service the filter.
Fuel injection pump damage - Replace or rebuild injection pump.
Dirty air filter element - Replace air filter element.
Unadjusted nozzle opening pressure - Set it correctly.
Engine stalls during operation |
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust as recommended.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Install new filter element.
Engine not warmed up - Warm up the engine.
Injection nozzles sticking or clogged - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Engine stalls when idle |
Too low idle RPM - Adjust low idle speed.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump damage - Rebuild or replace pump.
Diesel engine loses power |
Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Restricted fuel lines or hoses - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Clogged air cleaner - Carry out maintenance on air filter.
Worn cylinder head gasket - Change cylinder head gasket.
Wrong injection timing - Check injection timing adjustment.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Change pump or rebuild it.
One of moving engine parts is faulty - Repair or replace defective components.
Engine overheating |
Dirty radiator core or faulty radiator cap - Clean radiator or change cap.
Coolant level is low - Refill to the correct level and inspect system for leaks.
Damaged or worn fan belt - Change as required.
Low engine oil level - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Worn cylinder head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.
Improper injection timing - Check injection timing adjustment.
Oil pressure too low |
Low oil level - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Oil pump is damaged - Remove and inspect oil pump.
Plugged engine oil filter - Clean or replace engine oil filter element.
Relief valve is stuck or worn - Relief valve need to be replaced or cleaned.
Excessive crankshaft bearing clearance - Inspect and replace or repair faulty components.
Excessive crankpin bearing clearance - Inspect and replace or repair faulty components.
Diesel engine using too much oil |
Oil leakage: Seals or gaskets are defective - Worn parts need to be replaced.
Improper oil viscosity - Use oil of proper viscosity.
Stuck or worn piston rings - Have piston rings replaced.
Valve guides or stems are damaged - Valves need to be changed.
Pistons or cylinder liners are scuffed - Inspect liners and pistons, fit new parts as necessary.
Abnormal engine noise or knocking |
Engine is cold - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Not enough engine oil - Fill up the engine oil.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Worn or broken pistons - Pistons need to be replaced.
Connecting rod is misaligned or defective - Need to align or replace the connecting rod.
Starter turns slow |
Low battery output - Recharge the battery.
Battery will not hold charge - Service charging system or install new battery.
Battery terminals are corroded or wires are disconnected - Check wiring connections and replace or clean terminals.
Starter is not working |
Battery is low or faulty - Charge or replace the battery.
Wiring is incorrectly connected or disconnected - Inspect wiring and connect correctly.
Low battery output - Charge the battery.
Defective starter motor - Starter should be replaced.
