Toyota 2GR-FSE Troubleshooting

Engine starts hard or will not start

No gasoline in tank - Fill fuel up.
Incorrect fuel grade - Use correct fuel grade.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Disconnected or loose spark plug wire - Inspect spark plug wiring connection, change or repair.
Spark plug is faulty - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Ignition system failure - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Clogged fuel filter - Change fuel filter.
Dirt in the fuel lines - Clean fuel lines.
Fuel pump is faulty or clogged - Test fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Fuel injectors are damaged or dirty - Check fuel injectors and replace if necessary.
Engine has low compression - Check cylinder block and replace defective parts.

Engine runs roughly

Defective ignition system - Inspect ignition system and change faulty parts.
Air filter is blocked - Change or service air filter.
Spark plug is defective - Replace spark plug.
Dirty or damaged fuel pump - Clean or replace fuel pump.
Valve clearance is incorrect - Check and adjust.
Bad ignition timing - Adjust ignition timing correctly.
Too low idle RPM - Adjustment required.

Engine stalls after starting

Defective spark plug - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Clogged or defective fuel injectors - Clean or install new fuel injectors.
Faulty ignition coil - Replace ignition coil as necessary.
Valve springs are bad or broken - Install new valve springs.
Stuck valves - Service the valves.

Engine overheats

Engine oil level is low - Need to add engine oil.
Engine overloaded - Reduce the load.
Clogged fuel injectors - Service or replace fuel injectors.
Improper ignition timing - Adjust ignition timing as required.
Valve setting is incorrect - Valves needs to be set correctly.
Damaged radiator cap or dirty radiator core - Clean radiator or change cap.
Low coolant level - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Defective thermostat - Change thermostat.
Water pump is defective - Install new water pump.

Engine knocking or noise

Low octane fuel - Use proper gasoline.
Engine overload - Load reducing required.
Engine oil level low - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Correct idle settings.
Dirty or faulty fuel pump - Check fuel pump and change if required.
Main bearings or crankshaft wear - Install new parts as as required.
Valve clearance is incorrect - Check and adjust.
Damaged cylinder bore or piston rings - Replace faulty components.

Engine power is too low

Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.

Blown cylinder head gasket - Replace the gasket as required.

Engine uses too much fuel

Clogged air filter - Replace or service air filter.

Spark plug is defective or loose - Spark plug need to be tightened or replaced.
Incorrect ignition timing - Adjust ignition timing as required.
Worn, stuck, or burned valves - Change or service valves.
Worn sleeve, piston, or rings - Replace defective components.

Engine oil consumption is too high

Worn gaskets or seals - Replace defective parts.

Engine backfires
