Engine difficult to start or won't start |
Fuel filter element is dirty - Install new filter element.
Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Replace injection pump or repair it.
Wrong valve timing - Use correct valve timing adjustment.
Restricted fuel pipes - Service fuel pipes.
Wrong injection timing - Use correct injection timing adjustment.
Damaged piston rings and cylinder - Replace faulty components.
Diesel starts but immediately shuts off |
Fuel filter element is dirty - Change the filter element.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Change pump or rebuild it.
Dirty air cleaner - Replace air filter element.
Incorrect nozzle opening pressure - Set up as recommended.
Engine stalls during operation |
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Set it up as required.

Engine stops when idle |
Low idle speed set incorrectly - Adjustment required.

Fuel injection pump malfunction - Repair or replace injection pump.
Diesel power loss |
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Restricted fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel system lines and hoses.
Dirty air filter - Clean or replace element.
Worn cylinder head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.
Injection timing is incorrect - Check injection timing adjustment.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Replace or repair injection pump.
One of moving engine parts has broken - Repair or replace defective components.
Engine overheated |
Radiator fins are clogged or radiator cap is faulty - Change cap or clean radiator.
Low coolant level - Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks.
Fan belt slipping or worn - Belt replacement is recommended.
Engine oil level is insufficient - Fill up the engine oil.
Cylinder head gasket is blown - Gasket should be replaced.
Injection timing is incorrect - Check injection timing adjustment.
Low oil pressure |
Engine oil level low - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Oil pump malfunction - Remove and inspect oil pump.
Dirty oil filter element - Change or clean engine oil filter element.
Relief valve is defective or dirty - Change or clean relief valve.
Crankshaft bearing clearance is excessive - Check and replace or repair defective parts.
Excessive crankpin bearing clearance - Test and repair or replace worn parts.
High engine oil consumption |
Oil leaks: Gaskets or seals can be faulty - Replace worn parts to avoid leaks.
Oil viscosity is incorrect - Fill up with the proper oil viscosity.
Piston rings are seized or worn - Have piston rings replaced.
Valve guides or stems are damaged - Valves need to be changed.
Scuffed pistons or cylinder liners - Check pistons and liners, change as required.
Engine noise or knocking |
Engine not warmed up - Warm up engine as required.
Insufficient engine oil - Check and refill engine oil.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Pistons are worn or broken - Replace the pistons.
Faulty or misaligned connecting rod - Align or change connecting rod.
Starter motor turns slow |
Battery voltage is low - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Battery does not hold charge - Service charging system or replace battery.
Terminals are faulty or battery cables are disconnected - Check cables and clean or change terminals.
Starter does not work |
Battery is low or faulty - Recharge or replace battery.
Wire harness is disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wire harness and connect as required.
Low battery capacity - Charge the battery.
Starter motor is faulty - Replace or repair starter.
