| Engine starts up hard or will not start |
Clogged fuel filter - Replace filter element.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Replace or rebuild injection pump.
Valve timing is out of adjustment - Correct or change timing gear.
Dirty fuel pipes - Service or replace fuel pipes.
Injection timing is out of adjustment - Adjust injection timing as required.
Worn piston rings and cylinder - Replace faulty components.
| Diesel starts but stalls immediately |
Clogged fuel filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Replace or repair injection pump.
Restricted intake air - Install new air filter element.
Nozzle opening pressure is incorrect - Adjust as required.
| Engine shuts off suddenly while running |
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set it up as required.
Clogged fuel filter - Change the filter element.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up the engine.
Stuck or burnt injection nozzle - Clean or replace injection nozzles.

Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust as required.

Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Dirt in the fuel hoses or lines - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Air filter clogged - Clean or replace the element.
Cylinder-head gasket is leaking - Replace cylinder head gasket.
Unadjusted injection timing - Check injection timing adjustment.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Install a new pump or rebuild.
One of moving engine parts is faulty - Repair or replace defective components.
| Engine overheated |
Clogged radiator core or leaking radiator cap - Change cap or clean radiator.
Low coolant level - Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks.
Broken or loose fan belt - If necessary, replace the belt.
Low engine oil level - Need to add engine oil.
Damaged cylinder-head gasket - Install a new gasket.
Improper injection timing - Adjust injection timing as required.
| Oil pressure is insufficient |
Insufficient engine oil - Check and refill the oil.
Worn oil pump - Remove and inspect oil pump.
Clogged oil filter - Change or service engine oil filter.
Relief valve is stuck or broken - Relief valve need to be replaced or cleaned.
Clearance of crankshaft bearing is excessive - Test and replace or repair worn components.
Excessive oil clearance of crankpin bearing - Test and replace or repair worn components.

Oil leaks: Defective seals or gaskets - New components need to be installed.
Wrong oil viscosity - Fill up with the correct oil viscosity.
Stuck or worn piston rings - Have piston rings replaced.
Worn valve guides and valve stems - Change the valves.
Damaged pistons or cylinder liners - Check liners and pistons, replace as required.
| Abnormal engine noise or knocking |
Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature - Warm up to required temperature.
Low engine oil level - Need to add engine oil.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Worn or broken pistons - Replace the pistons as required.
Connecting rod misalignment or failure - Connecting rod needs to be replaced or aligned.
| Starter turns slow |
Low battery capacity - Charge the battery.
Battery is draining quickly - Service or replace the battery.
Battery terminals are corroded or wires are disconnected - Connect wires correctly or change terminals.
| Starter will not work |
Battery is discharged or worn - Change or recharge battery.
Wiring harness is disconnected or improperly connected - Check wiring harness and connect as required.
Low battery output - Charge the battery.
Starter motor is damaged - Starter should be replaced.
