Toyota 2T-GR Troubleshooting

Engine will not start or hard to start

No fuel in fuel tank - Add fuel.
Improper fuel grade - Use quality gasoline.
Fuel system clogged - Repair or replace.
Spark plug wire connection are damaged - Check the spark plug wire connection, repair or replace.
Spark plug is defective - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Defective ignition system - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Fuel filter is dirty - Fuel filter needs to be replaced.
Dirty fuel lines - Clean fuel lines.
Dirty or defective fuel pump - Service or replace fuel pump.
Carburetor is clogged - Clean the carburetor.
Bad compression - Check and change damaged parts.

Engine runs unevenly

Defective ignition - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Air filter is blocked - Service or replace air filter.
Defective spark plug - Change spark plug as required.
Clogged or damaged fuel pump - Inspect fuel pump and change as required.
Valve clearance is not correct - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Improper ignition timing - Ignition timing needs to be adjusted correctly.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Adjust idling as required.

Engine stops after starting

Spark plug is defective - Change spark plug as required.
Carburetor is dirty or defective - Service or change carburetor.
Ignition coil is faulty - Ignition coil should be replaced.
Loose or worn valve springs - Install new valve springs.
Valves sticking - Valves need to be cleaned.

Engine overheats

Low engine oil level - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Engine is running overloaded - Load reducing is recommended.
Too lean carburetor mixture - Set the carburetor properly.
Ignition timing is wrong - Ignition timing needs to be set properly.
Improper valve setting - Set the valves properly.
Faulty radiator cap or dirty radiator fins - Clean radiator or install new cap.
Insufficient coolant - Add coolant fluid and inspect the cooling system for leaks.
Defective thermostat - Thermostat need to be replaced.
Defective water pump - Change water pump as required.

Engine knocking or noise

Stale or low octane fuel - Change gasoline.

Excessive oil consumption

Gaskets or seals are excessively worn - Replace defective parts.

Engine backfires
