| Engine starts up hard or won't start |
Fuel filter element clogging - Change filter element.
Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged or dirty - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Repair or install a new fuel pump.
Valve timing is improper - Use correct valve timing adjustment.
Clogged fuel pipes - Service fuel pipes.
Injection timing is improper - Adjust according to specifications.
Worn piston rings and cylinder - Change defective parts.
| Diesel starts but stalls suddenly |
Fuel filter plugging - Change filter element.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Replace or rebuild injection pump.

Nozzle opening pressure is not adjusted - Adjust as required.

Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust the pump as required.

Fuel hoses or lines are clogged - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Air cleaner is dirty - Change air filter element.
Leaking cylinder head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.
Unadjusted injection timing - Set up as recommended.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Change pump or rebuild it.
Any of moving engine components is faulty - Change or repair damaged parts.
| Engine overheats |
Radiator core is clogged or radiator cap is leaking - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Low coolant level - Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults.
Fan belt slipping or worn - Replace the fan belt.
Engine oil insufficient - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Blown cylinder head gasket - Cylinder-head gasket replacement required.
Improper injection timing - Adjust injection timing as required.
| Oil pressure is insufficient |
Engine oil insufficient - Check and refill the oil.
Defective oil pump - Inspect and change as required.
Oil filter element clogged - Service or replace engine oil filter.
Relief valve is stuck or broken - Change or clean relief valve.
Clearance of crankshaft bearing is excessive - Test and replace or repair worn components.
Crankpin bearing clearance is excessive - Inspect and change or repair worn components.

External oil leaks: Seals or gaskets are defective - Install new components.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Use oil of proper viscosity.
Stuck or defective piston rings - Piston rings need to be replaced.
Valve stems or guides are damaged - Install new valves.
Cylinder liners or pistons are scuffed - Inspect liners and pistons, replace as necessary.
| Engine noise or knocking |
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up the engine.
Engine oil level low - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Set up as recommended.
Scored or worn pistons - Pistons need to be replaced.
Connecting rod is misaligned or defective - Need to change or align the connecting rod.

Battery power is low - Charge the battery.
Battery drains quickly - Battery needs service or replacement.
Battery cables are disconnected or terminals are faulty - Check cable connections and replace or service terminals.
| Starter does not work |
Battery is discharged or defective - Battery needs to be recharged or replaced.
Wiring harness is disconnected or improperly connected - Check wiring harness and connect as required.
Low battery capacity - Battery needs to be recharged.
Starter motor failure - Replace or repair starter.
