Engine starts hard or will not start

Empty gas tank - Add gasoline.
Improper fuel grade - Use correct fuel grade.
Fuel system clogged - Repair or replace.
Spark plug wire is loose or disconnected - Check the spark plug wire connection, repair or replace.
Faulty spark plug - Change spark plug as required.
Defective ignition - Test ignition and replace failed parts.
Fuel filter is clogged - Change fuel filter.
Dirt in the fuel lines - Service fuel lines.
Dirty or defective fuel pump - Service or change fuel pump.
Dirty or defective fuel injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Low cylinder compression - Check cylinder block and replace worn parts.

Engine runs unevenly

Ignition system is defective - Inspect ignition system and change failed components.
Air filter is dirty - Change or clean air filter.
Damaged spark plug - Spark plug need to be replaced.
Clogged or damaged fuel pump - Test fuel pump and replace if necessary.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjust valve clearance.
Wrong ignition timing - Set the ignition timing correctly.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Adjust the low idle speed.

Engine starts but stops suddenly

Damaged spark plug - Change spark plug as required.
Dirty or damaged fuel injectors - Service or change fuel injectors.
Defective ignition coil - Change ignition coil as required.
Broken or bad valve springs - Change valve springs.
Stuck valves - Clean the valves.

Engine overheats

Low engine oil level - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Engine is under excessive load - Load reducing is recommended.

Ignition timing is wrong - Ignition timing needs to be set properly.
Improper valve setting - Set the valves correctly.
Dirty radiator fins or faulty radiator cap - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Insufficient coolant fluid - Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks.
Damaged thermostat - Replace thermostat.
Water pump failure - Water pump need to be replaced.

Engine noise or knocking

Stale or low octane fuel - Use proper fuel.
Engine is under excessive load - Load reducing required.
Insufficient engine oil - Check and refill engine oil.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Test and adjust.
Clogged or defective fuel pump - Clean or install new fuel pump.

Engine lacks power

Cylinder head gasket is damaged - Install new head gasket.

Oil filter is blocked - Replace or clean oil filter.

Excessive fuel consumption

Air filter is blocked - Clean or change air filter.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Service or change fuel injectors.
Defective or loose spark plug - Replace or tighten spark plug.
Ignition timing is incorrect - Set the ignition timing correctly.
Valves are worn, stuck, or burned - Replace or clean valves.
Sleeve, rings, or piston are damaged - Replace defective parts as required.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Poor engine compression - Check cylinder block and replace damaged components.

Engine oil consumption is too high

Gaskets or seals are excessively worn - Replace to repair leaks.
Worn valve guides and valve stems - Replace defective valves.
Damaged or seized piston rings - Have piston rings replaced.
Piston or cylinder liner is scuffed - Check piston and liner, change as required.

Engine backfires

Dirty fuel injectors - Service or change fuel injectors.

Wrong ignition timing - Set the ignition timing correctly.
