Toyota 1UR-FE Engine Specifications

The Toyota 1UR-FE is a 4.60 l (4,608 cc, 281.2 cubic inches) V8, four-stroke cycle water-cooled naturally aspirated internal combustion gasoline engine, from the UR-family, manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation since 2006. The engine has 8 cylinders in a V-arrangement at a bank angle of 90°. The 1UR-FE features die-cast aluminum cylinder block t with a five-bearings crankshaft and two aluminum heads with two camshafts (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder (32 in total). The Toyota 1UR-FE engine is equipped with L-type sequential fuel injection (SFI) system, Direct Ignition System (DIS) ignition system with individual coils on each spark plug, Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS), Electronic Spark Advance (ESA) and ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent). The engine also used a Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing) system for the intake and exhaust camshafts. For reducing emission this engine used the water-cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system and the air injection system for the faster warm-up of the catalytic converters. A 94.0 mm (3.7 in) cylinder bore and 83.0 mm (3.27 in) piston stroke give the Toyota 1UR-FE motor a total 4.60 l of displacement. Compression ratio rating is 10.2:1. This engine produced from 296 PS (218 kW; 292 HP) at 5,500 rpm to 347 PS (255 kW; 342 HP) at 6,400 rpm of maximum power and from 439 Nm (44.8 kgm; 324 ft-lb) at 3,500 rpm to 460 Nm (46.9 kgm; 339.5 ft-lb) at 4,100 rpm of peak torque depending on year and vehicle model.

CYLINDER BLOCK

The 1UR-FE engine has a die-cast aluminum cylinder block in a V arrangement at a bank angle of 90°. This engine’s firing order is 1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2. The crankshaft is supported by 5 bearings. These bearings are made of aluminum alloy. The engine is equipped with forged steel crankshaft with five journals and six balance weights.

The 1UR-FE engine used forged connecting rods with resin-coated aluminum bearings. Pistons are made of high temperature-resistant aluminum alloy and they are cooled by four oil jets in the cylinder block. Piston pins are the full-floating type.

To reduce friction, the piston skirts have a resin coating, while the top compression ring and oil ring have a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating. The Toyota 1UR-FE motor has two compression and one oil control rings.

Bore and stroke are 94.0 mm (3.7 in) and 83.0 mm (3.27 in), respectively. Compression ratio rating is 10.2:1.

CYLINDER HEAD

The cylinder heads are made of aluminum alloy. The 1UR-FE engine has dual overhead camshafts design (DOHC) with four valves per cylinder (2 intakes and 2 exhaust). The 1UR-FE engine used primary timing chains for the intake camshafts and each exhaust camshaft is driven by a secondary timing chain from the intake camshaft. The 1UR-FE engine had Dual VVT-i to control the intake and exhaust camshafts.

The intake valve head diameter is 38.0 mm (1.496 in) and the exhaust valve diameter is 34.5 mm (1.260 in). Intake duration was 232 degrees and exhaust duration was 234 degrees. For valve clearance adjustment this engine used hydraulic lash adjuster which is actuated by engine oil supplied from the cylinder head and an integrated spring.
