Engine starts up hard or won't start |
Fuel filter element is clogged - Change the filter element.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Change pump or rebuild it.
Unadjusted valve timing - Correct or change timing gear.
Fuel pipes clogging - Service or replace fuel pipes.
Improper injection timing - Set up as recommended.
Worn piston rings and cylinder - Change faulty components.
Engine starts and immediately shuts off |
Clogged fuel filter - Install new filter element.
Fuel injection pump damage - Change or repair the pump.
Intake air restriction - Carry out maintenance on air filter.
Nozzle opening pressure is not adjusted - Set it correctly.
Engine stops running suddenly |
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust the pump as required.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Install new filter element.
Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature - Warm up the engine.
Injection nozzles are stuck or clogged - Repair or replace injection nozzles.
Engine stops when idle |
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Correct low idle settings.
Valve clearance is not correct - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Install a new pump or rebuild.
Diesel engine is losing power |
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Fuel hoses or lines are clogged - Clean fuel system lines and hoses.
Air filter is dirty - Clean air cleaner element.
Blown cylinder head gasket - Replace the gasket as required.
Wrong injection timing - Use correct injection timing adjustment.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Install a new pump or rebuild.
One of moving engine components has failed - Change or repair damaged parts.
Engine overheating |
Damaged radiator cap or dirty radiator core - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Not enough coolant - Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks.
Excessive wear of the fan belt - Install new fan belt.
Engine oil level is low - Fill up the engine oil.
Cylinder head gasket is defective - Install new cylinder head gasket.
Wrong injection timing - Adjust as recommended.
Insufficient oil pressure |
Engine oil insufficient - Add oil as required.
Oil pump is defective - Check and replace if necessary.
Oil filter element clogged - Change or clean engine oil filter element.
Relief valve is stuck or worn - Replace or service relief valve.
Clearance of crankshaft bearing is excessive - Inspect and replace or repair faulty components.
Excessive oil clearance of crankpin bearing - Test and repair or replace worn parts.
Engine using too much oil |
Oil leakage: Defective seals or gaskets - Install new components.
Crankcase oil too light - Use correct viscosity oil.
Seized or wear piston rings - Install new piston rings.
Damaged valve stems or valve guides - Install new valves.
Scored cylinder liners or pistons - Check pistons and liners, change as required.
Engine knocking or noise |
Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature - Warm up engine as required.
Engine oil level is low - Check and refill engine oil.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust the pump as required.
Pistons are broken or worn - Have pistons replaced.
Connecting rod is not aligned or defective - Align or replace connecting rod.
Starter cranks slowly |
Battery power is low - Battery needs to be recharged.
Battery runs out quickly - Service battery or replace it.
Wires are disconnected or battery terminals are corroded - Check wire connections and change or service terminals.
Starter motor is not working |
Battery is discharged or defective - Replace or charge as required.
Wiring is improperly connected or disconnected - Check wiring and connect properly.
Low battery output voltage - Battery is drained, charge it.
Starter motor is defective - Repair or install a new starter.
