Toyota 22R Specifications
The Toyota 22R is a 2.4 L (2,366 cc, 144.38 cubic inches) straight-four 4-stroke naturally aspirated gasoline engine from Toyota R-family. The engine was manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation since 1981 to 1995. The engine features a cast-iron block and aluminum cylinder head with the single overhead camshaft (SOHC) and two valves per cylinder (8 in total). Compression ratio rating is 9.0:1. Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 92.0 mm (3.62 in) and 89.0 mm (3.5 in). The Toyota 22R engine has a carburetor fuel system and ignition system with a mechanical distributor. In 1983, Toyota swapped the dual-row timing chain used in older 22R engines for a single-row chain with plastic guides. In 1985, the 22R engine was redesigned, many parts from the newer 22R (such as cylinder head, block, pistons, the timing chain, and cover, water and oil pumps) are not compatible with those from the older pre-1985 engine. The engine can output from 98 PS (72 kW; 97 HP) at 4,800 rpm to 110 PS (81 kW; 109 HP) at 5,000 rpm of maximum power and from 174 Nm (17.7 kgm, 128 ft-lb) at 2,800 rpm to 187 Nm (19.1 kgm, 138 ft-lb) at 3,400 rpm of peak torque.
