John Deere S100 Troubleshooting

The John Deere S100 lawn tractor from S100 Series was manufactured between 2021 and 2025. The John Deere S100 tractor is powered by Briggs and Stratton 31R977 4-cycle single cylinder OHV vertical shaft air-cooled gasoline engine. A 30.5 cubic inches (499 cc) engine has a cylinder bore of 3.56" (91 mm), piston stroke of 3.06" (78 mm), and rated power of 17.5 Hp (13 kW).

This model is fitted with a belt-driven hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The John Deere S100 is equipped with a manual steering system, mechanical PTO clutch, disc brakes, 15x6.00-6 front tyres, and 20x8.00-8 rear tyres. The operating weight is 415 lbs (187 kg). Compatible attachments for the tractor: 42" mid-mount 2-blade mower deck with cutting height of 1.0-4.0" (25-102 mm), 44" front-mount single-stage snow blower, and 46" front blade.

Mower vibration is excessive
Clogged or damaged mower drive sheave - Replace or clean sheave

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery cannot be charged
Electrical wire connections are corroded or loose Tighten or service cable connections
Faulty electrical terminal connectors - Replace terminal connectors
Battery faulty cell - Change the battery
Starter turning slow
Low battery power - Battery is drained, charge it
Battery is not holding charge - Service charging system or change battery
Battery terminals are corroded or wires are disconnected - Connect wires properly or change terminals
Starter is not cranking
Battery is discharged or defective - Charge or change the battery
Battery cables are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check cables and connect as needed
Low battery output voltage - Charge the battery
Spark plug worn or incorrectly gapped - Clean and gap or replace
Starter motor or solenoid is damaged - Repair starter or install a new solenoid
