John Deere X110 Troubleshooting

The John Deere X110 lawn tractor from X100 Series was manufactured between 2007 and 2010. The John Deere X110 tractor is powered by Briggs and Stratton 31 four-cycle single cylinder OHV vertical shaft air-cooled gasoline engine. A 30.6 cubic inches (500 cc) engine has a cylinder bore of 3.57" (91 mm), piston stroke of 3.06" (78 mm), and rated power of 13.5 Hp (10 kW).

This model is fitted with Tuff Torq T40 hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The John Deere X110 automatic is equipped with a manual steering system, electric PTO clutch, disc brakes, 15x6.00-6 front tyres, and 20x8.00-8 rear tyres. The operating weight is 450 lbs (204 kg). The tractor is compatible with a 42" mid-mount 2-blade mower deck with a cutting height of 1.0-4.0" (25-102 mm) and mechanical lift system.

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine starts up hard or doesn't start

Transmission parts are worm or defective - Check hydrostatic transmission components for defect or damage and change if necessary
Difficult to shift
Loose or broken shift linkage - Change defective linkage
Seized or worn hydrostatic pump - Change or repair pump
Transmission shift control components are defective or misadjusted - Adjust correctly or replace
Power is too low
Insufficient transmission oil - Check transmission oil level and add oil as required

Mower Deck Troubleshooting
Mower vibrates too much
Worn or dirty mower drive pulley - Clean or replace pulley
Drive belt is worn or loose - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced
Mower blades are warped or not balanced - Balance or replace blades
Loose blade bolts tightening - Bolts need to be tightened
Discharge chute is regularly plugged
Fast mowing speed - Use a lower speed
Grass is too long - Use a lower cutting height
Engine rpm is too low - Adjust choke to full opening
Cutting level is too low - Need to set high cutting height
Incorrect mower drive belt installation - Reinstall drive belt properly

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery cannot be charged
Corroded or loose cable connections - Tighten or clean connections
Battery terminal connectors are faulty - Terminal connectors should be replaced
Battery is worn - Use a new battery
Starter turning slow
Battery capacity is low - Charge the battery
Battery runs out quickly - Service battery or change it
Disconnected wires or corroded battery terminals - Connect wires correctly or change terminals
Starter will not crank
Battery is drained or worn - Replace or charge as required
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required
Battery capacity is low - Charge the battery
Improperly gapped or dirty spark plug - Replace or clean and gap
Damaged starter motor or solenoid - Repair starter or replace solenoid
