John Deere X130R Troubleshooting

The John Deere X130R lawn tractor from X100 Series was manufactured between 2010 and 2011. The John Deere X130R tractor is powered by Briggs and Stratton 405577 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV vertical shaft air-cooled gasoline engine. A 40.1 cubic inches (656 cc) engine has a cylinder bore of 2.97" (75 mm), piston stroke of 2.89" (73 mm), and rated power of 16.8 Hp (12.5 kW).

This model is fitted with Tuff Torq T40 hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The John Deere X130R is equipped with a manual steering system, electric PTO clutch, disc brakes, 15x6.00-6 front tyres, and 18x8.50-8 rear tyres. The operating weight is 460 lbs (208 kg). The tractor is compatible with a 42" mid-mount 2-blade mower deck with a cutting height of 1.0-4.0" (25-102 mm) and mechanical lift system.

Engine won't start or hard to start
No fuel in fuel tank - Fill fuel up

Transmission oil is contaminated or oil level is insufficient - Add oil to the correct level or fill the transmission with fresh oil
Transmission components are damaged or worn - After disassembly and inspection, replace defective components
Difficult to shift
Damaged or loose shift linkage - Change or repair linkage
Hydrostatic pump is defective or blocked - Change or repair pump
Damaged or unadjusted transmission shift control components - Replace or adjust as required
Low power
Low fluid level - Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary
Drive sheave is worn or faulty - Replace sheave
Shift linkage is unadjusted or damaged - Change or adjust linkage
Speed control linkage is defective or unadjusted - Adjust or repair linkage
Transmission leaking
Broken transmission gaskets or seals - Install new gaskets or seals
Final drive shaft leaks - Shaft seals need to be changed

Mower Deck Troubleshooting
Excessive mower vibration
Clogged or damaged mower drive sheave - Replace or service sheave
Drive belt is defective or loose - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced
Mower blades are unbalanced or bent - Balance or change as needed
Loose blade mounting bolts - Tighten bolts as required
Discharge chute regular clogging
High ground speed - Select a lower speed
Grass is too high - Use a lower cutting height

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery cannot be charged
Wiring connections are corroded or loose - Tighten or service cable connections
Battery terminal connectors are faulty - Change terminal connectors
Bad cell in battery - Battery replacement required
Starter cranks slowly
Low battery output - Battery is drained, recharge it
Battery won’t hold charge - Service charging system or install new battery
Bad battery terminals or disconnected wiring - Connect wires correctly or change terminals
Starter will not crank
Battery is discharged or worn - Need to charge or replace the battery
Wire harness is disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wire harness and connect as required
Battery capacity is low - Low battery charging, charge as required
Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plug - Replace or clean and gap
Defective solenoid or starter motor - Starter/solenoid should be replaced
