John Deere X310 Troubleshooting

The John Deere X310 lawn tractor from Select X300 Series was manufactured between 2012 and 2015. The John Deere X310 tractor is powered by Kawasaki FS600V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV vertical shaft air-cooled gasoline engine. A 36.8 cubic inches (603 cc) engine has a cylinder bore of 2.87" (73 mm), piston stroke of 2.84" (72 mm), and rated power of 18.5 Hp (13.8 kW). This model is fitted with a belt-driven hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears.

The John Deere X310 is equipped with a power steering system, electric PTO clutch, wet disc brakes, 15x6.00-6 front tyres, and 20x10.00-8 rear tyres. The operating weight is 512 lbs (232 kg). Compatible attachments for the tractor: 42" mid-mount 2-blade mower deck with a cutting height of 1.0-4.0 in (25-102 mm), 44" front-mount snowblower with a hydraulic lift system, and 44" front blade.

Engine will not start or hard to start
Empty gas tank - Fill gasoline up

Transmission leaks

Mower Deck Troubleshooting
Mower vibrates too much
Drive pulley of mower deck is damaged or dirty - Clean or replace pulley
Loose or worn drive belt - Adjust belt tension or change the belt
Unbalanced or warped mower blades - Change or balance blades
Blade mounting bolts are loose - Tighten it fast
Discharge chute is constantly plugged
Ground speed is too fast - Need to slow down
Long grass - Use a lower cutting height
Low engine speeds - Adjust carburetor to higher rpm
Mower cuts too low - Must be set to high cutting height

Deck is plugged with grass - Check cutting deck and clean as necessary

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge
Electrical cable connections are loose or corroded - Service or tighten cable connections
Faulty electrical terminal connectors - Change terminal connectors
Bad cell in battery - Replace the battery
Starter motor cranks slow
Low battery output - Battery needs to be recharged
Battery does not hold charge - Service charging system or install new battery
Bad battery terminals or disconnected wiring - Check cables and clean or change terminals
Starter will not work
Battery is discharged or defective - Recharge or change battery
Battery cables are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check cables and connect as needed
Battery voltage is low - Battery needs to be recharged
Improperly gapped or dirty spark plug - Clean, gap or replace spark plug
Solenoid or starter motor failure - Change solenoid or repair starter
