John Deere X320 Troubleshooting

The John Deere X320 lawn tractor from Select X300 Series was manufactured between 2006 and 2015. The John Deere X320 tractor can be powered by the following engines: Kawasaki FH661V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 22 Hp (16.4 kW) or Kawasaki FS651V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 22 Hp (16.4 kW).

This model is fitted with a belt-driven hydro transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The John Deere X320 is equipped with a manual steering, electric PTO clutch, wet disc brakes, 15x6.50-8 front tires, and 22x11.00-10 rear tires. The operating weight is 548 lbs (248 kg). The tractor is compatible with а 48" mid-mount 3-blade mower deck with a mechanical lift system, 44" front-mount 2-stage snow blower, and 44" front blade.

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine starts hard or won't start
No gasoline in tank - Fill it up

Transmission parts are worm or defective - After disassembly and inspection, replace defective components
Difficult to shift

Mower vibrates too much
Clogged or damaged mower drive sheave - Replace or clean sheave
Loose or defective drive belt - Change belt or adjust belt tension
Bent or unbalanced cutting blades - Balance or change as needed
Loose blade mounting bolts - Bolts need to be tightened
Constant clogging of discharge chute
High mowing speed - Select a slower speed
Grass is too long - Use a lower cutting height
Engine is running at too low speed - Open throttle fully

High ground speed - Select a slower speed
Incorrect level of mower deck - Adjust mower deck level properly
Worn or bent blades - Change the blades
Tires are not properly inflated - Correct tire pressure
Mower cutting is uneven
Low tire inflation - Need to inflate tires
Deck level is not correct - Adjust the level of mower deck correctly
Blades are too dull - Sharpen the blades
Bent or worn blades - Change the blades
Deck clogged with grass clippings - Mower deck needs to be cleaned
Damaged mower deck housing - Replace or repair the deck
Loose or defective mower spindle - Spindle needs to be repaired or replaced

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery does not charge
Corroded or loose wire connections - Service or tighten connections
Defective battery terminal clamps - Install new terminal clamps
Battery dead cell - Use a new battery
Starter turns slow
Battery capacity is low - Recharge the battery
Battery won’t hold charge - Service or replace the battery
Bad terminals or disconnected battery cables - Check cables and service or change terminals
Starter does not work
Battery is low or faulty - Charge or replace the battery
Wiring is incorrectly connected or disconnected - Inspect wiring and connect correctly
Battery power is low - Battery is drained, charge it
Incorrectly gapped or worn spark plug - Replace or clean and gap
Starter motor or solenoid is damaged - Starter/solenoid needs to be replaced
