John Deere X350 Troubleshooting

The John Deere X350 lawn tractor from Select X300 Series was manufactured between 2016 and 2025. The John Deere X350 tractor can be powered by the following engines: Kawasaki FS600V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 18.5 Hp (13.8 kW) or Kawasaki FR651V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 21.5 Hp (16 kW).

This model is fitted with a belt-driven hydro transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The John Deere X350 is equipped with a manual steering, electric PTO clutch, wet disc brakes, 15x6.00-6 front tires, and 20x10.00-8 rear tires. The operating weight is 468 lbs (212 kg). The tractor is compatible with а 42" mid-mount 2-blade mower deck or 48" mid-mount 3-blade mower deck with a mechanical lift system, 44" front-mount dual-stage snowblower, and 44" front blade.

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine doesn't start or difficult to start
No fuel in fuel tank - Add gasoline
Improper fuel grade - Change fuel
Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system
Spark plug wiring connection is defective - Inspect spark plug wiring connection, change or repair
Faulty spark plug - Spark plug need to be replaced

Ignition system failure - Check ignition and replace faulty components
Damaged cylinder-head gasket - Replace the gasket as required
Stuck or burned valves - Replace or service valves
Damaged or worn push rod - Replace push rod

Engine uses too much fuel
Throttle is not fully open - Change or adjust throttle cable
Carburetor main jet is improperly adjusted - Adjust it properly

Piston, sleeve, or rings are damaged - Change faulty components
Excessive valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance
Engine consuming too much oil
Worn seals or gaskets - Worn parts need to be replaced
Valve guides or stems are damaged - Need to replace the valves
Damaged or seized piston rings - Have piston rings replaced
Cylinder liner or piston is scored - Inspect liner and piston, fit new parts as necessary
Breather pipe or hose is blocked - Change or clean

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
HST transmission is making noise
Defective or not adjusted speed control pedal linkage - Repair or adjust linkage
Excessive transmission load - Load needs to be reduced
Contaminated transmission fluid or low fluid level - Add fluid to the correct level or fill the transmission with fresh fluid
Damaged or worn components of hydrostatic transmission - After disassembling and inspection, change defective components
Difficult to shift
Shift linkage is stuck or damaged - Clean or change linkage
Hydrostatic pump is blocked or defective - Repair or change pump
Worn or misadjusted transmission shift control parts - Change or adjust correctly
Loss of power
Low fluid level - Fill the transmission housing to proper fluid level
Drive pulley is worn or faulty - Change pulley
Misadjusted or faulty shifting linkage - Adjust properly or replace linkage
Defective or not adjusted speed control pedal linkage - Adjust or change linkage
Transmission leaking
Damaged transmission seals or gaskets - Change seals or gaskets
Final drive shaft leakage - Change shaft seals
Cracked transmission case - Replace defective case or transmission assembly

Mower Deck Troubleshooting
Mower vibrates too much
Clogged or damaged mower drive sheave - Clean or change sheave
Loose or worn drive belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced
Bent or unbalanced mower blades - Balance or change as needed
Blade mounting bolts are loose - Tighten it fast
Discharge chute is constantly plugged
Fast mowing speed - Use a slower speed
Grass is too high - Need to set low cutting height
Engine runs at low revs - Adjust carburetor to higher rpm
Low cutting height - Use a higher cutting height
Drive belt installed improperly - Install drive belt correctly
Uncut grass when mowing
Deck clogged with grass clippings - Clean mower deck as required

Blades are excessively dull - Need a blade sharpening
Blades are defective or worn - Install new blades
Clogged mower deck - Mower deck needs to be cleaned
Deck shell is broken - Replace or repair the deck
Mower spindle is loose or defective - Install new spindle or repair it

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge
Corroded or loose wire connections - Tighten or service connections
Defective battery terminal clamps - Install new terminal clamps
Battery bad cell - Replace the battery
Starter turns slow
Battery power is low - Recharge the battery
Battery drains quickly - Service charging system or replace battery
Disconnected battery cables or bad terminals - Check cables and clean or change terminals
Starter is not cranking
Battery is drained or worn - Charge or change the battery
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required
Low battery output - Battery needs to be recharged
Incorrectly gapped or worn spark plug - Clean and gap or replace
Starter motor or solenoid failing - Change solenoid or repair starter
