John Deere X360 Troubleshooting

The John Deere X360 is a 2WD lawn tractor from Select X300 series. This model was manufactured from 2008 to 2015. The John Deere X360 tractor can be powered by the following engines: Kawasaki FH661V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 22 Hp (16.4 kW) or Kawasaki FS651V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 22 Hp (16.4 kW).

This model is fitted with Tuff Torq hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The lawn tractor is equipped with a power steering, electric PTO clutch, wet disc brakes, 15x6.50-8 front tires, and 22x11.00-10 rear tires. The operating weight is 570 lbs (258 kg). The John Deere X360 tractor is compatible with the following attachments: 48" mid-mount 3-blade mower deck with a cutting height of 1.0-4.0 in (25-102 mm), 44" front-mount two-stage snowblower with hydraulic lift system, and 44" front blade.

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine starts up hard or won't start
Fuel tank is empty - Add gasoline
Incorrect fuel grade - Use correct fuel grade
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system
Defective spark plug wire connection - Inspect the spark plug wire connection, replace or repair
Spark plug is damaged - Spark plug need to be replaced

Air filter element is plugged - Service or replace air filter

Ignition coil is not working - Change ignition coil as required
Bad or damaged valve springs - Install new valve springs
Stuck valves - Valves need to be cleaned
Engine is overheated

Clogged cooling fins - Wash or clean as required
Carburetor fuel mixture is too lean - Set the carburetor correctly

Cylinder head gasket is worn - Install new head gasket

Damaged or worn push rod - Push rod needs to be changed
Damaged cylinder block parts - Replace defective components
High fuel consumption
Choke didn't open fully - Adjust or change choke cable
Improper adjustment of carburetor main jet - Adjust main jet as required
Spark plug is defective or loose - Tighten or replace spark plug
Stuck, burned, or worn valves - Change or clean valves
Worn piston, rings, or sleeve - Change defective parts
Valve clearance is improper - Adjust to proper valve clearance
High oil consumption
Worn gaskets or seals - Replace to repair leaks
Worn valve stems and valve guides - Valves need to be changed
Piston rings are stuck or worn - Have piston rings replaced
Scored cylinder liner or piston - Check piston and liner, replace as required
Clogged breather pipe or hose - Service or replace

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
Hydrostatic transmission is excessively noisy
Speed control pedal linkage is damaged or out of adjustment - Change or adjust linkage
Transmission overloaded - Reduce loading
Low transmission oil level or contaminated oil - Fill to required level or change the transmission oil
Damaged or worn components of hydrostatic transmission - After disassembling and inspection, change defective components
Hard to shift
Shift linkage is stuck or damaged - Clean or change linkage
Blocked or faulty hydrostatic pump - Repair or change pump
Damaged or unadjusted transmission shift control components - Replace or adjust as required
Power is too low
Insufficient transmission oil - Check transmission oil level and add oil as required
Worn or defective drive pulley - Change pulley
Broken or not adjusted shift linkage - Change or adjust linkage
Speed control linkage is defective or unadjusted - Change or adjust linkage
Transmission leakage
Transmission gaskets or seals are worn - Replace gaskets or seals
Final drive shaft is leaking - Install new shaft seals
Transmission case is cracked - Replace defective case or transmission assembly

Mower Deck Troubleshooting
Excessive mower vibration
Mower deck drive pulley is worn or dirty - Clean or replace pulley
Drive belt is damaged or loose - Change belt or adjust belt tension
Unbalanced or warped cutting blades - Change or balance blades
Loose blade mounting bolts - Bolts need to be tightened
Discharge chute keeps clogging
Fast ground speed - Select a slower speed
Tall grass - Must be set to low cutting height
Reduced engine rpm - Adjust carburetor to higher rpm
Cutting height is too low - Use correct cutting height
Mower drive belt installation is improper - Drive belt must be installed correctly
Mower leaving random uncut of grass
Deck clogged with grass clippings - Inspect and clean cutting deck
Not sharp blades - Need a blade sharpening
Worn or defective blades - Blades need to be replaced
High ground speed - Need to slow down
Low cutting height - Must be set to high cutting height
Full grass bag - Clean grass bag
Blades scalping grass
Lawn is uneven or bumpy - Lawn needs to be leveled
Cutting height is too low - Use a higher cutting height
Fast mowing speed - Use a slower speed
Incorrect level of mower deck - Level the deck correctly
Damaged or bent blades - Replace the blades
Tires are not correctly inflated - Inflate tires correctly
Mower deck to cut unevenly
Tires are not correctly inflated - Inflate tires correctly
Deck is not leveled correctly - Adjust the level of mower deck correctly
Blades are not sharp - Sharpen the blades
Worn or bent blades - Blades need to be replaced
Deck clogged with grass clippings - Clean mower deck as required
Damaged mower deck housing - Rebuild or replace mower deck
Loose or defective mower spindle - Install new spindle or repair it

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery is not charging
Corroded or loose cable connections - Service or tighten connections
Defective battery terminal connectors - Terminal connectors should be replaced
Bad cell in battery - Replace the battery
Starter motor cranks slow
Low battery power - Charge the battery
Battery is not holding charge - Service battery or change it
Disconnected wiring or bad battery terminals - Connect wires properly or change terminals
Starter will not work
Battery is low or faulty - Charge or replace the battery
Wire harness is disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wire harness and connect as required
Low battery capacity - Recharge the battery
Spark plug dirty or improperly gapped - Clean and gap or replace
Faulty solenoid or starter motor - Starter/solenoid needs to be replaced
