John Deere X384 Troubleshooting

The John Deere X384 lawn tractor from Select X300 Series was manufactured between 2016 and 2025. The John Deere X384 tractor can be powered by the following engines: Kawasaki FS651V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 22 Hp (16.4 kW) or Kawasaki FR691V 4-cycle V-twin cylinder OHV air-cooled gasoline engine with a rated power of 23 Hp (17.3 kW).

This model is fitted with a belt-driven hydro transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The John Deere X384 is equipped with a manual four-wheel steering, electric PTO clutch, wet disc brakes, 15x6.00-6 front tires, and 20x10.00-10 rear tires. The operating weight is 557 lbs (252 kg). The tractor is compatible with а 48" mid-mount 3-blade mower deck with a cutting height of 1.0-4.0 in (25-102 mm), 44" front-mount two-stage snowblower with manual lift system, and 44" front blade.

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine difficult to start or will not start

Worn or defective transmission components - After disassembling and inspection, change defective components
Shifting is hard

Power is too low

Transmission leaks

Mower Deck Troubleshooting
Excessive mower vibration
Mower deck drive sheave is clogged or worn - Service or change sheave
Loose or damaged drive belt - Install a new belt or adjust belt tension
Bent or unbalanced cutting blades - Balance or change blades
Loose blade bolts tightening - Bolts should be tightened
Discharge chute is regularly plugged
Ground speed is too fast - Select a lower speed

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery will not charge
Loose or corroded cable connections - Tighten or service connections
Defective battery terminal connectors - Terminal connectors need to be changed
Battery is defective - Battery change required
Starter motor turns slow
Low battery capacity - Battery needs to be recharged
Battery does not hold charge - Service battery or change it
Wires are disconnected or battery terminals are corroded - Connect wires correctly or change terminals
Starter is not working
