Kubota T1400 Troubleshooting

The Kubota T1400 is a lawn tractor from T-series. This model was manufactured between 1987 and 1996. The components of Kubota T1400 powerline system: Kubota GH400 4-cycle single cylinder air-cooled OVH gasoline engine and belt-driven hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears.

A 23.81 cubic inches (0.39 L) engine has a power rating of 13.5 hp (10.1 kW) and maximum torque of 25.5 Nm (18.9 lb-ft) at 2500 rpm. The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 5.6 mph (9 km/h) and 2.6 mph (4.2 km/h). The tractor is fitted with 14x5.00-6 front tires and 18x8.50-8 rear tires.

The wheelbase is 46.9 in (1190 mm). The Kubota T1400 can be equipped with the following attachments: a 40" mid-mount 2-blade Kubota RC40LT mower deck with cutting height of 1.0-4.0 in (25-101), 42" front-mount Kubota T2541 snowblower, and 44" front-mount Kubota T2083 blade.

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine won't start or starts hard
No fuel in fuel tank - Add gasoline
Improper fuel grade - Use correct fuel grade
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines
Spark plug wire is loose or disconnected - Check the spark plug wire connection, repair or replace
Spark plug is damaged - Spark plug need to be replaced
Plugged fuel filter - Fuel filter needs changing

Engine starts but then stops

Ignition coil is faulty - Ignition coil must be replaced

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
Hydrostatic transmission is excessively noisy
Worn or out of adjustment speed control linkage - Adjust or repair linkage
Transmission overloaded - Reduce loading
Contaminated transmission fluid or low fluid level - Fill to required level or change the fluid
Damaged or worn components of transmission - After disassembly and inspection, replace defective components
Hard shifting
Loose or broken shift linkage - Change defective linkage
Worn or seized hydrostatic pump - Repair or change pump
Misadjusted or faulty transmission shift control components - Change or adjust correctly
Power is too low
Lack of transmission oil supply - Need to add transmission oil
Drive pulley is worn or faulty - Change pulley
Broken or not adjusted shift linkage - Replace or adjust linkage
Speed control pedal linkage is damaged or out of adjustment - Adjust or install new linkage
Transmission leakage
Damaged transmission seals or gaskets - Change gaskets or seals
Final drive shaft leakage - Replace shaft seals
Transmission housing is cracked - Install a new transmission housing

Mower Deck Troubleshooting
Mower vibrates excessively
Clogged or damaged mower drive sheave - Clean or replace sheave
Drive belt is loose or defective - Adjust belt tension or change the belt
Unbalanced or warped mower blades - Balance or change as needed
Loose blade mounting bolts - Bolts should be tightened
Discharge chute is constantly plugged
Ground speed is too fast - Operate at slower speed
Grass is too high - Adjust mower to lower cutting height
Engine is running at too low speed - Choke is not fully opening
Mower deck set to low cutting - Must be set to high cutting height

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery does not charge
Electrical cable connections are corroded or loose - Service or tighten cable connections
Battery terminal clamps are faulty - Install new terminal clamps
Battery is defective - Battery change required
Starter cranks slowly
Battery power is low - Battery needs to be recharged
Battery is draining quickly - Battery needs to be serviced or replaced
Disconnected cables or faulty battery terminals - Connect wiring correctly or install new terminals
Starter will not work
Battery is discharged or defective - Replace or charge as required
Battery wires are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wires and connect correctly
Low battery output voltage - Battery is drained, recharge it
Spark plug faulty or incorrectly gapped - Replace or clean and gap
Solenoid or starter motor is faulty - Repair starter or install a new solenoid
