Case IH 2150 Troubleshooting

The Case IH 2150 orchard-vineyard tractor was manufactured Carraro built from 1988 to 1993. The Case IH 2150 tractor is powered by SLH 1000.4A four-cycle 4-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine with a max output power of 71 hp (52.6 kW) and 271 Nm (200 lb-ft) of peak torque at 1200 rev/min.

The Case IH 2150 is fitted with 2 types of transmission. 1st type: 8x8 partially synchronized transmission. 2nd type: partially synchronized transmission with 12 forward and 12 reverse gears. Max. forward speed - 18.1 mph (29.2 kph), max. reverse speed - 18.1 mph (29.2 kph).

The open center hydraulic system includes a gear pump with a flow of 15.6 gpm (59 lpm). The Case IH 2150 was equipped with a hydrostatic power steering, wet disc brakes, 8.25x16 or 10.5x15 front tires, and 13.6x28 or 14.9x28 rear tires. The wheelbase is 81.7 inches (2070 mm).

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine hard to start or won't start

Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Fuel filter plugging - Install new filter element.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Valve out of adjustment - Adjustment procedure required.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Repair or install a new fuel pump.

Engine starts but stalls immediately

Dirty air filter element - Clean or change.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Service or replace the filter.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Defective fuel injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump damage - Install a new pump or rebuild.

Engine stops unexpectedly during operation

Engine is cold - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Fuel filter plugged - Install new filter element.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.

Engine stops while idling

Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Test and adjust.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Replacement or repair required.
Clogged or defective injectors - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Improper valve clearance - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.

Low engine power

Dirty air filter element - Carry out maintenance on air filter.
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Uneven fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
Incorrect valve clearance - Correct valve clearance.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Normalize low idle speed.
Dirty fuel lines or hoses - Service fuel hoses and lines.
Cylinder-head gasket is leaking - Cylinder-head gasket replacement required.
Piston rings are leaking or defective - Replace piston rings.

Engine overheated

Lack of coolant in cooling system - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Engine oil level is insufficient - Need to add engine oil.
Radiator fins are dirty or radiator cap is defective - Replace cap or clean radiator.
Damaged or worn fan belt - Install new fan belt.
Engine is overloaded - Reduce load on the engine.

Low oil pressure

Low oil level - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Engine oil filter is plugged - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is wrong - Fill up with the correct oil viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Install new bearings.
Oil pump is defective - Inspect and change as required.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise

Insufficient engine oil - Fill up the engine oil.
Low coolant temperature - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Adjust as recommended.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Adjust low idle speed.
Dirty or defective injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Misaligned or faulty connecting rod - Replace or align connecting rod.
Worn or scored pistons - Pistons replacement required.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Transmission oil pressure is insufficient

Insufficient transmission fluid - Fill the transmission housing to proper fluid level.
Transmission oil filter is dirty (if equipped) - Service or change transmission oil filter.
Relief valve malfunction - Change the valve.

Excessive transmission noise

Transmission fluid level is low - Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
Transmission oil contamination - Fill up with fresh transmission oil.
Defective gears or improper backlash - Change the gears or set backlash properly.
Bearings are damaged or worn - Change the bearings.
Worn or bent gear shift forks - Change defective shift forks.
Shaft splines are stuck or worn out - Change the shaft.

Gear shift is hard

Stuck or worn gear shift linkage - Change or lubricate shift linkage.
Worn or bent gear shift forks - Shift forks need to be replaced.
Worn parts of the gear shifting mechanism - Change worn parts.
Improperly adjusted or worn clutch - Adjust clutch or change if necessary.

Transmission oil leaking

High transmission oil level - Correct the oil level.
Damaged gaskets or seals - Gaskets or seal replacement required.

Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
Low hydraulic system pressure

Insufficient hydraulic oil - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Replace filter element or clean if required.
Hydraulic pump is defective - Install a new hydraulic oil pump.
Hydraulic spool valve block is not adjusted properly - The spool valve should be properly adjusted.
Defective hydraulic cylinder - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.
Leaks in hydraulic pipes - Check the hydraulic system and fix leaks.

Hydraulics overheating

Main relief valve failure - Relief valve replacement required.
Hydraulic fluid type is improper - The proper type of fluid must be used.
Contaminated hydraulic oil - Change hydraulic oil.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.

Hitch won't raise or raises slowly

Heavy load on the hitch - Reduce loading.
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Add fluid as required.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Replace filter element or clean if required.
Hydraulic pump not working - Replace or repair hydraulic fluid pump.
Main relief valve is defective - Relief valve must be changed.
Hydraulic spool valve block is defective - Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it.
Broken hydraulic cylinder - Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.
Loose or broken suction pipe - Retighten or replace pipe.

3-point hitch won't lower or lowers slowly

Incorrect adjusted hydraulic control valve - Adjust correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder is defective - Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.
3-point hitch is out of adjustment - Adjust the hitch.
Lift arm shaft is damaged - Replace the shaft.

Hitch lower or lift is jerky

Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic pump not working - Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump.
Hydraulic spool valve is damaged - Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.

Steering Troubleshooting
Steering is hard

Incorrectly fitted or worn steering column - Refit or replace the steering column.
Air lock in hydraulic steering system - Bleed air from system.
Incorrect toe-in - Adjust toe-in wheels.
Uneven wear on front tyres - Replace the tyres.
Faulty steering pump - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired.
Stuck or worn pump flow control valve - Replace or clean flow control valve.
Steering oil insufficient - Check and refill steering oil.

Steering wheel free play is excessive

Steering column shaft or coupling is worn out - Change faulty part.
Steering pump is worn - Replace or repair steering pump.
Worn or loose steering linkage joints - Inspect and change as required.

Tractor is pulling to left or right

Front tyres are worn unevenly - Install new tyres.
Incorrect toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Loose or worn steering linkage components - Check and change as required.
Improperly adjusted or defective front wheel bearings - Replace or adjust the bearings correctly.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge

Loose or corroded wire connections - Tighten or service cable connections.
Battery terminal connectors are faulty - Terminal connectors should be replaced.
Battery is worn - Install a new battery.
Damaged or loose belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or changed.

Starter motor turns slow

Low battery output voltage - Recharge the battery.
Battery drains quickly - Service charging system or replace battery.
Disconnected cables or faulty battery terminals - Connect cables properly or replace terminals.

Starter will not work

Battery is discharged or worn - Charge or change the battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check cables and connect as needed.
Low battery output voltage - Recharge the battery.
Damaged starter motor - Change or repair starter.
