The Case IH 745 XL utility tractor was manufactured between 1985 and 1990. The Case IH 745XL tractor is powered by 239 cu.in (3.9 L) IH D-239 4-cylinder liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 72 hp (53.7 kW).

The Case IH 745 XL is fitted with a 2 types of transmission. Type 1: IH Total-Synchron 2-speed powershift transmission with 16 forward and 8 reverse gears. Type 2: Gear transmission with 8 forward and 4 reverse gears. The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 18.6 mph (29.9 kph) and 10.8 mph (17.3 kph).

The open center hydraulic system has a gear pump with a rated capacity of 8.7 gpm (32.9 lpm). The hydraulic system pressure is 175 bar (2540 psi). The tractor is equipped with a hydrostatic power steering, wet disc brakes, 7.50x18 (2WD) or 12.4x24 (4WD) front tyres, and 16.9x34 rear tyres. The wheelbase is 94.1" (2390 mm) for 2WD models and 92.5" (2340 mm) for 4WD models.
