Kubota B2420 Troubleshooting

The Kubota B2420 is a 2WD or 4WD compact tractor. This model was manufactured from 2009 to 2017.

The Kubota B2420 driveline includes a Kubota D1105 E-TVCS 4 cycle vertical 3-cilinder water-cooled diesel engine and gear shift transmission with 9 forward and 3 reverse gears. The Kubota B2420 is equipped with an integrated power steering system, wet multi disc brakes, 7.00x12 front tires, and 9.50x18 rear tires. The wheelbase is 61.8 inches (1563 mm).

Engine Troubleshooting
Diesel won't start or hard to start
Clogged fuel filter element - Service or replace the filter
No fuel supply from the tank - Open the fuel supply valve
Air in fuel system - Air-bleed fuel system
Dirty or damaged injectors - Check fuel injectors and replace if required
Faulty fuel injection pump - Replace injection pump or repair it
Engine has low compression - Check cylinder block and change faulty parts
Engine shuts off unexpectedly while running
Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine
Air in fuel system - Air-bleed fuel system
Fuel injection failed - Use correct settings
Fuel filter is clogged - Service or replace the filter
Dirty or faulty injectors - Service or change fuel injectors
Engine starts and immediately stalls
Incorrectly set fuel injection pump timing - Check the fuel injection pump timing setting
Dirty fuel filter element - Change the filter element
Fuel injector nozzles are faulty - Install a new set of well-balanced nozzles
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Repair or install new pump
Dirty air cleaner - Replace cleaner or install new cleaner element
Engine stalls when idle
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Correct the settings
Fuel injection pump damage - Rebuild or install a new injection pump
Damaged or clogged injector nozzles - Change injector nozzles
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Adjust valve clearance
Engine overheating
Lack of coolant in cooling system - Coolant needs to be refilled. Check for coolant leaks
Cooling system parts are defective or system is clogged - Replace faulty parts or service cooling system
Engine oil insufficient - Checking oil level and add if necessary
Unadjusted fan belt tension or worn belt - Adjust properly or replace the belt
Thermostat fault - Thermostat needs to be replaced
Engine power loss
Dirty or faulty injectors - Change fuel injectors
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Check the fuel injection pressure and adjust if necessary
Dirty air filter element - Service or replace the air filter
Dirty oil filter - Service or replace engine oil filter
Diesel engine overloaded - Change to lower gear or reduce load
Improper valve clearance - Adjustment procedure required
Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Adjust as required

Flywheel bolts are loose - Bolts need to be tightened
Excessive engine oil consumption
Oil leakage: Seals or gaskets are wearing excessively - Replace to repair leaks
Oil viscosity is incorrect - Fill up with the proper oil viscosity
Damaged or seized piston rings - Have piston rings replaced
Valve stems and guides are worn - Valves must be replaced
Pistons or cylinder liners are damaged - Check liners and pistons, install new components as required


Electrical System Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge
Battery is worn - Use a new battery
Bad battery cable harness - Inspect cables for malfunctions, repair or change
Loose or corroded cables and terminals - Tighten or service cables and terminals
Belt wear or improper belt tension adjustment - Change belt or correctly adjust belt tension
Starter cranks slow
Battery voltage is low - Low battery charging, charge as required
Battery runs out quickly - Service battery or replace it
Bad battery cable harness - Inspect cables for malfunctions, repair or change
Corroded or loose battery terminals and cables - Clean or tighten terminals and cables
Starter doesn't crank
Battery capacity is low - Recharge the battery
Discharged or defective battery - Charge or replace the battery
Faulty starter motor - Change or repair starter
Improperly connected or disconnected cables - Check battery cables and connect properly

Transmission Troubleshooting
Hard to shift gears
Failure or improper clutch adjustment - Clutch adjustment or replacement required
Stuck or damaged gear shift linkage - Change or repair shift linkage
Damaged or worn shift forks - Replace the shift forks
Gearshift mechanism failure - Change or repair failed components
Lack of transmission oil pressure
Oil level is insufficient - Fill the transmission housing to proper oil level
Plugged transmission fluid filter (if equipped) - Replace or clean transmission fluid filter
Relief valve sticking - Install a new relief valve
Transmission is excessively noisy
Broken or worn bearings - Faulty bearings should be replaced

Hydraulic system is overheated
Improper hydraulic system pressure setting - Set the pressure properly
Main relief valve incorrect adjustment or failure - Adjust relief valve or change if required
Hydraulic oil is dirty - Hydraulic oil change required
Air enters in hydraulic system - Check the pump seals, suction line, and fittings
Hydraulic oil pressure too low
Hydraulic oil level is insufficient - Check oil level and add hydraulic oil as required
Hydraulic fluid filter is clogged - Replace filter element or clean if required
Defective hydraulic pump - Check the pump capacity and replace pump if required
Hydraulic control valve block is faulty or out of adjustment - Change or adjust properly
Hydraulic cylinder is defective - Inspect cylinder components for wear or damage and change if required
Leakage in hydraulic pipes - Find leaks in hydraulic system and repair it
3-point hitch won't raise or raises slowly
Not enough hydraulic fluid in the system - Check and refill the hydraulic fluid
Cold hydraulic fluid - Warm up the fluid
Hydraulic oil filter clogging - Install a new hydraulic filter element
Hydraulic pump failure - Check pump capacity and change if necessary
Main relief valve is damaged or adjusted improperly - Adjust the valve or replace if necessary
Damaged or incorrect adjusted hydraulic control valve - Change or set correctly

3-point hitch won't drop or drops slowly

Worn lift arm shaft - Install a new shaft
Mechanical components of the hitch are defective - Change faulty or worn hitch parts
3-point hitch lift or lower is jerky
Air leaks in hydraulic system - Check the suction pipe, fittings, and pump seals
Dirty hydraulic oil - The oil must be changed
Hydraulic pump failure - Test pump flow rate and replace pump if required
Hydraulic spool valve block is not set properly or defective - Replace or set properly
Hydraulic cylinder is defective - Check cylinder components for damage or wear and change if necessary

Steering System Troubleshooting
Heavy steering
Damaged or improperly installed steering column - Reinstall or replace the steering column
Aeration in steering system - Bleed air
Incorrect toe-in adjustment - Adjust toe-in wheels properly
Tire pressure is improper - Inflate the tires properly
Steering pump is faulty - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired
Damaged or worn power steering valve - Repair or replace the steering valve
Faulty steering box components - Defective power steering box components must be replaced
Low steering oil level - Fill up the steering oil
Steering system has oil leaks - Retighten the connections of the hydraulic steering lines and hoses
Excessive steering wheel play
Steering column shaft or coupling has maximum wear - Change defective part
Worn or damaged power steering valve - Change or repair steering valve if required
Worn steering box parts - Change defective steering box parts
Worn steering pump - Repair or change steering pump
Steering tie-rod ends or linkage are worn - Change damaged part
Front wheels wander to right or left
Improper tire pressure - Check the pressure and inflate tires as required
Improper toe-in adjustment - Check toe-in and correct
Steering tie-rod ends or linkage are worn - Replace failed part
Worn steering box parts - Repair power steering box
Power steering valve has wear or damage - Check and replace as required
Incorrectly adjusted or damaged front hub bearings - Replace or adjust the bearings correctly
