Mahindra 1533 Troubleshooting

The Mahindra 1533 compact utility tractor was manufactured between 2016 and 2018. The Mahindra 1533 tractor is powered by Mahindra CE-33 4-cycle 4-cylinder direct injection diesel engine. A 166.7 cubic inches (2.7 L) engine has a cylinder bore of 3.5" (89 mm), piston stroke of 4.33" (110 mm), and rated power of 34.5 hp (27.5 kW). The Mahindra 1533 is fitted with a 2 transmission options: 8x8 synchro shuttle transmission, and 3-range hydrostatic transmission. The maximum forward speed - 14.9 mph (23.8 km/h), maximum reverse speed - 12.2 mph (19.5 km/h).

The open center hydraulic system includes a gear pump with rated fluid flow of 7.7 gal/min (29 l/min). The tractor is equipped with a hydrostatic power steering system, wet disc brakes, 7.00x16 front tyres, and 11.2x24 rear tyres. The wheelbase is 77" (1955 mm). The tractor is compatible with Mahindra 1538L front end loader with a lift capacity to max height of 1650 lbs (750 kg), and Mahindra 1538B backhoe with a maximum digging depth of 94" (2380 mm).

Diesel Engine Troubleshooting
Engine difficult to start or won't start

Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Fuel filter plugged - Replace the filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Repair or change injection pump.

Engine starts but stops suddenly

Air filter clogged - Carry out maintenance on air filter.
Fuel filter plugging - Service or replace the filter.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Clogged or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Defective fuel injection pump - Repair or install new pump.

Engine stalls during operation

Low coolant temperature - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Clogged fuel filter - Filter maintenance required.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Faulty fuel injection nozzles - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Adjust according to specifications.

Engine stalls when idle

Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Adjustment required.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Repair or install new pump.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.

Engine lacks power

Air filter element clogged - Service air cleaner.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Correct the pressure settings.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Adjustment procedure required.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Normalize low idle speed.
Dirty fuel hoses or lines - Fuel lines and hoses need to be cleaned.
Cylinder head gasket is defective - Replace the gasket as required.
Defective or worn piston rings - Install new piston rings.

Engine overheating

Not enough coolant - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Engine oil level is insufficient - Fill up the oil to required level.
Clogged radiator fins or damaged radiator cap - Clean radiator or change cap.
Excessive wear of the fan belt - Replace as required.
Diesel engine overloaded - Reduce load or shift to lower gear.

Low oil pressure

Not enough oil in the engine - Fill the crankcase with oil.
Clogged oil filter element - Change or service engine oil filter.
Improper type of engine oil - Use the specified type of engine oil.
Incorrect oil clearance in main bearing - Bearings need to be reinstalled.
Oil pump malfunction - Check and replace if necessary.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise

Not enough engine oil - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Adjust the pump as required.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Adjustment required.
Dirty or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Connecting rod misalignment or failure - Need to replace or align the connecting rod.
Broken or worn pistons - Replace the pistons.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Low transmission oil pressure

Transmission oil level is low - Need to add transmission oil.
Transmission fluid filter is clogged (if fitted) - Service or change transmission fluid filter.
Defective relief valve - Replace the valve.

Transmission makes excessive noise

Insufficient transmission oil - Need to add transmission oil.
Transmission fluid contamination - Transmission fluid change required.
Defective gears or improper backlash - Adjust backlash properly or replace the gears.
Worn or damaged bearings - Replace faulty bearings.
Shift forks are bent or worn out - Shift forks need to be replaced.
Shaft splines are worn or stuck - Change defective shaft.

Hard shifts

Stuck or worn gear shift linkage - Shift linkage need to be replaced.
Shift forks are bent or worn out - Replace the shift forks.
Defective parts in the gearshift mechanism - Replace defective parts.
Clutch is worn or not adjusted - Replace or adjust clutch.

External oil leaks

Too much fluid in transmission - Excess fluid must be drained.
Broken seals or gaskets - Install new gaskets or seal.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
Hydrostatic transmission is making noise

Oil is dirty or oil level is too low - Add oil to the correct level or fill the transmission with fresh oil.
Speed control pedal linkage is bent or not adjusted - Change or adjust linkage.
Relief valve failure - Replace valve as required.
Excessive loading - Reduce transmission load.
Transmission parts are worm or defective - Check hydrostatic transmission components for defect or damage and change if necessary.

Power is insufficient

Transmission fluid level is low - Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
Relief valve failure - Replace valve as required.
Defective or not adjusted speed control pedal linkage - Adjust or install new linkage.

Transmission oil overheats

Low fluid level - Need to add transmission fluid.
Transmission oil filter is clogged - Clean or change transmission oil filter.
Plugged or defective cooling components - Inspect all cooling components and service or change if necessary.
Transmission overload - Reduce the load is required.

Transmission oil leaks

Seals or gaskets are broken - Install new seal or gaskets.
High internal transmission housing pressure - Check transmission parts for damage or wear and replace if required.
Plugged transmission fluid return tube - Service or replace return tube.

Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
Hydraulic fluid pressure is low

Hydraulic fluid level low - Add fluid as required.
Clogged hydraulic fluid filter - Clean or replace the hydraulic filter.
Damaged hydraulic pump - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Incorrect adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Adjust the spool valve correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Leaking hydraulic pipes - Check the hydraulic system and fix leaks.

Hydraulic system overheating

Damaged main relief valve - Install a new relief valve.
Improper type of hydraulic fluid - The correct type of fluid must be used.
Hydraulic oil contamination - Change the oil.
Air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding.

Hitch does not raise or raises very slowly

Hitch is under excessive load - The load should be reduced.
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Need to add oil.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter - Replace filter element or clean if required.
Hydraulic pump is defective - Install a new hydraulic oil pump.
Main relief valve malfunctioning - Relief valve need to be replaced.
Defective hydraulic spool valve block - Repair or replace hydraulic valve.
Faulty hydraulic cylinder - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Suction pipe is disconnected or broken - Connect or replace pipe.

3-point hitch does not lower or lowers very slowly

Not adjusted hydraulic control valve - Need to adjust.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
3-point hitch is out of adjustment - Adjust the hitch.
Lift arm shaft is damaged - Install a new shaft.

3-point hitch jerks when lower or lift

Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Dirty hydraulic fluid - The fluid must be changed.
Defective hydraulic pump - Install a new hydraulic fluid pump.
Damaged hydraulic spool valve - Change or repair hydraulic valve.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.

Steering System Troubleshooting
Steering wheel is difficult to turn

Incorrectly mounted or defective steering column - Mount the steering column correctly or replace it.
Air in steering hydraulic system - Bleed the steering system.
Not adjusted toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Front tires wear unevenly - Change the tires.
Worn steering pump - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired.
Worn or stuck pump flow control valve - Flush or change flow control valve.
Steering fluid level is low - Check fluid level and add steering fluid as required.

Excessive free play of steering wheel

Worn steering column coupling or shaft - Replace defective part.
Damaged hydraulic steering pump - Repair or change steering pump.
Worn or loose steering linkage assembly - Repair or change steering linkage.

Front wheels wander to right or left

Front tyres are worn unevenly - Install new tyres.
Not adjusted toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Steering linkage components are loose or worn - Change or repair steering linkage.
Front wheel bearings are worn or incorrectly adjusted - Adjust properly or replace bearings.

Electrical System Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge

Wiring connections are corroded or loose - Service or tighten connections.
Faulty battery terminal connectors - Terminal connectors should be replaced.
Defective battery - Battery change required.
Worn or loose belt - Adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter turning slow

Battery capacity is low - Battery needs to be recharged.
Battery does not hold charge - Service or replace the battery.
Disconnected wires or corroded battery terminals - Check wiring and clean or replace terminals.

Starter does not work

Battery is low or faulty - Charge or change the battery.
Battery wires are disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wires and connect correctly.
Low battery output - Battery needs to be recharged.
Damaged starter motor - Starter should be changed.
