Mahindra 1626HST Troubleshooting

The Mahindra 1626 HST compact utility tractor was manufactured between 2018 and 2023. The Mahindra 1626HST driveline consists of Mitsubishi S3L2 four-cycle three-cylinder indirect injection diesel engine and 3-range hydrostatic transmission. A 80.4 cubic inches (1.32 L) engine has a cylinder bore of 3.07" (78 mm), piston stroke of 3.62" (92 mm), and rated power of 25.6 hp (19 kW). The maximum forward speed - 11.7 mph (18.8 km/h), maximum reverse speed - 6 mph (9.6 km/h). The open center hydraulic system includes a gear pump with rated fluid flow of 7.5 gpm (28.5 lpm). The hydraulic system pressure is 152 bar (2200 psi).

The Mahindra 1626HST is equipped with a hydrostatic power steering system, wet disc brakes, 7.00x16 front tyres, and 11.2x24 rear tyres. The wheelbase is 67.3" (2280 mm). The tractor is compatible with Mahindra 1626L front end loader with a maximum lift height at pivot pin of 86" (2180 mm), and Mahindra 1626B backhoe with a maximum digging depth of 86" (2180 mm).

Diesel Engine Troubleshooting
Engine difficult to start or won't start

Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Clogged fuel filter - Clean or change the filter.
Clogged or defective injection nozzles - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Improper valve clearance - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Repair or install new pump.

Diesel starts and then shuts off

Dirty air cleaner - Install new air filter element.
Clogged fuel filter - Change filter element.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Repair or replace injection pump.

Engine stops running suddenly

Engine is not preheated - Warm up engine as required.
Fuel filter plugging - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Faulty fuel injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust fuel injection pump as required.

Engine stalls while idling

Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump damage - Change pump or rebuild it.
Fuel injector fault - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance.

Engine loses power

Air filter is dirty - Replace air filter element.
Clogged or defective injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Check and adjust as required.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjustment required.
Clogged fuel hoses or lines - Fuel lines and hoses need to be cleaned.
Defective cylinder head gasket - Replace cylinder head gasket.
Worn or damaged piston rings - Replace the piston rings as required.

Engine overheats

Insufficient coolant - The cooling system needs to be refilled and checked for faults.
Engine oil level is insufficient - Fill up the engine oil.
Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator fins - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Loose or damaged fan belt - If necessary, replace the belt.
Diesel engine overloaded - Reduce load on the engine.

Oil pressure is insufficient

Low oil level - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Engine oil filter is plugged - Replace or clean engine oil filter element.
Improper type of engine oil - Fill up with the correct oil viscosity.
Excessive main bearing oil clearance - Change bearings.
Oil pump failure - Install a new pump.

Engine knocking or noise

Engine oil level is low - Fill up the engine oil.
Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust as recommended.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Misaligned or faulty connecting rod - Align or change connecting rod.
Worn or scored pistons - Pistons need to be replaced.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
HST transmission is making noise

Fluid is contaminated or fluid level is insufficient - Add fluid to the correct level or fill the transmission with fresh fluid.
Speed control pedal linkage is damaged or out of adjustment - Adjust or repair linkage.
Relief valve is damaged - Change relief valve.
Transmission overload - Load needs to be reduced.
Transmission components are damaged or worn - Change or repair defective parts.

Power is insufficient

Transmission oil level is low - Check transmission oil level and add oil as required.
Relief valve is stuck - Replace the valve.
Worn or out of adjustment speed control linkage - Adjust or repair linkage.

Hot transmission oil

Insufficient transmission oil - Need to add transmission oil.
Dirty transmission fluid filter element - Service or replace the transmission fluid filter.
Damaged or clogged cooling components - Inspect all cooling components and service or change if necessary.
Transmission overloaded - Reduce the load is required.

Transmission oil leaking

Seals or gaskets are broken - Gaskets or seal replacement required.
High internal transmission case pressure - Change defective parts.
Oil drain line is clogged - Clean or change the line.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting
Low hydraulic fluid pressure

Insufficient hydraulic oil - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter - Install a new hydraulic filter element.
Hydraulic pump not working - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Incorrect adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Adjust the spool valve correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.
Leaks in hydraulic lines - Find leaks in the system and fix it.

Hydraulic system overheats

Main relief valve malfunction - Install a new relief valve.
Hydraulic oil type is incorrect - Pour the correct type of oil.
Dirty hydraulic fluid - The fluid must be changed.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.

3-point hitch can't lift or lifts too slowly

Excessive hitch loading - Reduce loading.
Hydraulic oil level low - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Clogged hydraulic fluid filter - Replace filter element or clean if required.
Faulty hydraulic pump - Change or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Main relief valve is defective - Change relief valve.
Hydraulic control valve is defective - Change or repair hydraulic valve.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.
Loose or broken suction pipe - Retighten or replace pipe.

3-point hitch won't lower or lowers slowly

Incorrect setting hydraulic spool valve - Use the correct setting.
Faulty hydraulic cylinder - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.
Hitch is out of adjustment - Need to make adjustments.
Lift arm shaft is damaged - Install a new shaft.

Jerky lowering or lifting of the hitch

Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Contaminated hydraulic oil - Change hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic pump failure - Install a new hydraulic oil pump.
Defective hydraulic spool valve block - Repair or replace the valve.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Repair or replace hydraulic cylinder.

Steering System Troubleshooting
Excessive effort to steer

Improperly installed or damaged steering column - Install the steering column as required or replace it.
Air in steering hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Improper toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Front tyres are worn unevenly - Install new tyres.
Hydraulic steering pump is defective - Check the hydraulic steering pump and change if necessary.
Faulty or stuck pump flow control valve - Replace or service control valve.
Not enough steering oil - Check oil level and add steering oil as required.

Excessive steering wheel play

Steering column shaft or coupling is worn out - Change faulty component.
Steering pump is worn - Repair or change steering pump.
Loose or worn steering linkage components - Inspect and change as required.

Tractor pulls to left or right

Uneven wear on front tyres - Replace the tyres.
Not adjusted toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Loose or worn steering linkage parts - Replace or repair steering linkage.
Defective or improperly adjusted front wheel bearings - Adjust correctly or install new bearings.

Electrical System Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge

Corroded or loose cable connections - Tighten or clean connections.
Battery terminal clamps are defective - Terminal clamps should be changed.
Battery bad cell - Battery change required.
Damaged or loose belt - Adjust belt tension or install a new belt.

Starter motor cranks slow

Battery capacity is low - Charge the battery.
Battery won’t hold charge - Service charging system or change battery.
Disconnected battery cables or bad terminals - Connect cables properly or replace terminals.

Starter will not work

Battery is drained or defective - Need to charge or replace the battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect cables and connect properly.
Low battery power - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Starter motor failing - Starter needs to be replaced.
