Mahindra 2555 Troubleshooting

The Mahindra 2555 is a 4WD compact utility tractor from 2500 series. This model was manufactured from 2016 to 2023. The Mahindra 2555 tractor is powered by 161.5 cu.in (2.6 L) four-cycle three-cylinder direct injection turbocharged intercooled diesel engine with a rated power of 55 hp (41 kW). The Mahindra 2555 is fitted with a two transmission options: synchro shuttle transmission with 12 forward and 12 reverse gears, or 3-range hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears.

The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 16.9 mph (27 km/h) and 15.6 mph (25 km/h). The open center hydraulic system has a gear pump with a rated capacity of 9.5 gpm (36 lpm) for Shuttle and 9.7 gpm (37 lpm) for HST. The tractors are equipped with 9.50x16 or 12.0x16.5 front tires and 14.9x24 or 16.9x24 rear tires. Compatible attachments for the tractor: Mahindra 2555L front end-loader with a maximum lift height of 115.4" (2930 mm), and Mahindra 75B backhoe with maximum digging depth of 116" (2940 mm).

Diesel Engine Troubleshooting
Engine starts up hard or doesn't start

Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Dirty fuel filter - Change filter element.
Clogged injection nozzle - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve out of adjustment - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Repair or change injection pump.

Engine starts but immediately stalls

Intake air restriction - Clean or replace element.
Dirty fuel filter - Change filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Dirty or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Repair or install a new fuel pump.

Engine stalls while running

Engine not warmed up - Warm up the engine.
Clogged fuel filter - Install new filter element.
Air in the fuel pipes - Bleed the fuel pipes.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Service or change injection nozzles.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust according to specifications.

Engine stops while idling

Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Correct low idle settings.
Defective fuel injection pump - Replace or rebuild injection pump.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Valve out of adjustment - Check and adjust as required.

Diesel engine loses power

Air filter is clogged - Clean or replace element.
Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Adjust pressure to proper level.
Improper valve clearance - Correct valve clearance.
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjustment required.
Restricted fuel hoses or lines - Fuel hoses and lines must be clean.
Cylinder head gasket is damaged - Gasket should be replaced.
Piston rings are damaged or leaking - Replace piston rings.

Engine is overheated

Lack of coolant in cooling system - The cooling system needs to be refilled and checked for faults.
Engine oil level is low - Need to add engine oil.
Damaged radiator cap or dirty radiator core - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Loose or defective fan belt - Change the fan belt.
Engine is overloaded - Reduce the load or use a lower gear.

Low oil pressure

Lack of oil - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Oil filter element clogged - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Use oil of proper viscosity.
Excessive oil clearance of crankshaft bearing - Install new bearings.
Worn oil pump - Remove and inspect oil pump.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise

Not enough engine oil - Fill up the engine oil.
Engine is not preheated - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Set it up as required.
Too low idle RPM - Correct the settings.
Defective fuel injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Connecting rod is not aligned or defective - Align or replace connecting rod.
Worn or broken pistons - Replace the pistons as required.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Low transmission pressure

Transmission oil level is low - Add oil to the transmission housing.
Clogged transmission oil filter element (if fitted) - Service or change transmission oil filter.
Relief valve failure - Install a new valve.

Transmission is excessively noisy

Insufficient transmission oil - Fill up the transmission oil.
Transmission fluid is dirty - Transmission fluid change required.
Defective gears or improper backlash - Install new gears and adjust backlash properly.
Bearings are damaged or worn - Bearings replacement required.
Shift forks are worn or bent - Change defective shift forks.
Damaged or worn shaft splines - Install a new shaft.

Hard shifts

Rusty or worn gear shift linkage - Change or lubricate shift linkage.
Worn or bent gear shift forks - Replace defective shift forks.
Worn gear shifting mechanism - Repair or change worn components if necessary.
Worn or improperly adjusted clutch - Adjust correctly or replace.

External fluid leaks

High transmission fluid level - Drain the excess fluid.
Damaged seals or gaskets - Install new seal or gaskets.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
Hydrostatic transmission makes excessive noise

Low transmission oil level or contaminated oil - Fill to required level or change the transmission oil.
Bent or unadjusted speed control pedal linkage - Repair or adjust linkage.
Defective relief valve - Replace the valve.
Excessive transmission load - Load needs to be reduced.
Transmission components are damaged or worn - Change or repair defective parts.

Loss of power

Transmission oil insufficient - Need to add transmission oil.
Relief valve is stuck - Replace the valve.
Defective or not adjusted speed control pedal linkage - Adjust or change linkage.

Transmission oil overheated

Lack of transmission oil supply - Fill up the transmission oil.
Plugged transmission oil filter - Service or change transmission oil filter.
Cooling components are defective or plugged - Check all cooling components and change or clean if required.
Excessive transmission load - Reduce transmission load.

Transmission fluid leaks

Seals or gaskets are worn - Seals and gaskets need to be replaced.
High internal transmission case pressure - Check transmission parts for damage or wear and replace if required.
Oil drain pipe is plugged - Check pipe and service if necessary.

Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
Low hydraulic oil pressure

Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Dirty hydraulic fluid filter - Clean or change hydraulic filter.
Hydraulic pump is defective - Install a new hydraulic fluid pump.
Incorrect adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Adjust the spool valve correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Change or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Hydraulic piping is leaking - Find leaks in the system and fix it.

Hydraulic system overheats

Main relief valve is defective - Relief valve need to be replaced.
Improper hydraulic fluid type - Use the proper type of hydraulic fluid.
Dirty hydraulic oil - The oil must be changed.
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

Hitch not lifting or hitch lifts slowly

Hitch is under excessive load - The load should be reduced.
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Dirty hydraulic fluid filter element - Replace hydraulic filter element or service if necessary.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Main relief valve malfunction - Change relief valve.
Hydraulic control valve block is faulty - Repair or replace the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder not working - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Suction line is disconnected or broken - Replace or connect correctly.

3-point hitch can't drop or drops too slowly

Hydraulic control valve is not set properly - Adjust properly.
Defective hydraulic cylinder - Change or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Misadjusted hitch - Adjustment is required.
Damaged lift arm shaft - Install a new shaft.

Hitch lower or lift is jerky

Air in hydraulic lines - Bleed hydraulic lines.
Hydraulic fluid is dirty - Hydraulic fluid change required.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Hydraulic spool valve is damaged - Repair or replace the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is faulty - Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.

Steering System Troubleshooting
Steering wheel is difficult to turn

Improperly fitted or damaged steering column - Refit or change the steering column.
Air lock in hydraulic steering system - Need to bleed air.
Incorrect toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Tire pressure uneven - Inflate the tires correctly.
Steering pump is worn - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired.
Worn or stuck pump flow control valve - Replace or service control valve.
Not enough steering oil - Check oil level and add steering oil as required.

Excessive steering wheel play

Worn steering column shaft or coupling - Change defective component.
Steering pump not working - Check the hydraulic steering pump and change if necessary.
Loose or worn steering linkage components - Change or repair steering linkage.

Tractor pulls to right or left

Uneven tire pressure - Inflate the tires properly.
Not adjusted toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Steering linkage parts are loose or worn - Check and change as required.
Front wheel bearings are worn or incorrectly adjusted - Adjust properly or change bearings.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery is not charging

Electrical wire connections are corroded or loose - Service or tighten cable connections.
Defective electrical terminal connectors - Change terminal connectors.
Worn-out battery - Battery replacement required.
Damaged or loose belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Starter cranks slow

Low battery output - Battery needs to be recharged.
Battery is not holding charge - Service charging system or change battery.
Bad terminals or disconnected battery cables - Check wiring and clean or replace terminals.

Starter will not work

Battery is low or faulty - Recharge or replace battery.
Wire harness is disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wire harness and connect as required.
Low battery output - Recharge the battery.
Starter motor is faulty - Starter should be replaced.
