The Mahindra 2638HST driveline consists of four-cycle four-cylinder direct injection water-cooled diesel engine and 3-range hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. A 166.7 cubic inches (2.7 L) engine has a cylinder bore of 3.5" (89 mm), piston stroke of 4.33" (110 mm), and rated power of 37.5 hp (28 kW). The maximum forward speed - 14.9 mph (23.8 km/h), maximum reverse speed - 11.9 mph (19 km/h).

The open center hydraulic system includes a gear pump with rated fluid flow of 7.6 gpm (28.8 lpm). The Mahindra 2638 HST is equipped with a hydrostatic power steering system, wet disc brakes, 7.00x16 (AG) or 10.0-16.5 (Industrial) front tyres, and 11.2x24 (AG) or 43x16-20 (Industrial) rear tyres. The wheelbase is 90 inches (2280 mm). The tractor is compatible with Mahindra 2638L front end-loader with a maximum lift height of 101.4" (2570 mm), and Mahindra 60B backhoe with maximum digging depth of 95" (2410 mm).
