Mahindra 2655 Troubleshooting

The Mahindra 2655 is a four-wheel drive compact utility tractor. This model was manufactured from 2018 to 2020. The Mahindra 2655 tractor is powered by 161.5 cu.in (2.6 L) four-cycle three-cylinder direct injection turbocharged intercooled diesel engine with a rated power of 55 hp (41 kW). The Mahindra 2655 is fitted with a two transmission options: synchro shuttle transmission with 12 forward and 12 reverse gears, or 3-range hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears.

The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 16.9 mph (27 km/h) and 15.6 mph (25 km/h). The open center hydraulic system has a gear pump with a rated capacity of 9.5 (36 lpm) for SST or 9.7 (37 lpm) for HST. The tractors are equipped with 9.50x16 (AG) or 12.0x16.5 (Industrial) front tires and 14.9x24 (AG) or 16.9x24 (Industrial) rear tires. Compatible attachments for the tractor: Mahindra 2655L front end-loader with a maximum lift height of 115.4" (2930 mm), and Mahindra 65B backhoe with maximum digging depth of 108" (2740 mm).

Engine Troubleshooting
Diesel engine hard to start or doesn't start

Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Dirty fuel filter - Install new filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve clearance is not correct - Adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Rebuild or replace pump.

Diesel starts and stops

Clogged air cleaner - Service air cleaner.
Fuel filter plugging - Filter maintenance required.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Dirty or defective injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Rebuild or replace pump.

Engine stalls while running

Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter plugging - Service the filter.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stops when idle

Low idle speed setting is not correct - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Replacement or repair required.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Valve out of adjustment - Check and adjust as required.

Diesel engine loses power

Intake air restriction - Clean or replace element.
Clogged or defective injection nozzles - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
Valve out of adjustment - Check and adjust as required.
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Need to adjust idle speed.
Clogged fuel lines or hoses - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Cylinder-head gasket is leaking - Replace cylinder head gasket.
Damaged or leaking piston rings - Piston rings replacement required.

Engine is overheated

Lack of engine coolant - Fill the cooling system and check components for leaks or other faults.
Engine oil level is insufficient - Need to add engine oil.
Dirty radiator core or defective radiator cap - Clean radiator or install new cap.
Fan belt is worn or faulty - The fan belt needs to be replaced.
Engine overload - Shift to lower gear or reduce the load.

Low oil pressure

Low crankcase oil level - Fill the crankcase with oil.
Dirty oil filter - Change or service engine oil filter.
Wrong oil viscosity - Use the specified type of engine oil.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is incorrect - Bearing replacement required.
Oil pump is defective - Remove and inspect oil pump.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise

Engine oil level low - Fill up the oil to required level.
Low coolant temperature - Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Improper fuel injection timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Adjust low idle speed.
Dirty or defective injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Connecting rod is worn or misaligned - Connecting rod needs to be replaced or aligned.
Worn or broken pistons - Pistons need to be replaced.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Lack of transmission oil pressure

Low oil level - Fill the transmission housing with oil.
Dirty transmission fluid filter (if fitted) - Replace or service transmission fluid filter.
Relief valve failure - Change the valve.

Transmission is making noise

Lack of transmission oil supply - Fill up the transmission oil.
Transmission fluid contamination - Transmission fluid change required.
Defective gears or improper backlash - Change worn gears or adjust backlash correctly.
Bearings are cracked or worn - Replace the bearings.
Shift forks are worn or bent - Replace the shift forks.
Shaft splines are stuck or worn out - Replace defective shaft.

Gear shift is hard

Corroded or worn gear shift linkage - Shift linkage need to be replaced.
Worn or damaged gear shift forks - Replace defective shift forks.
Defective parts in the gearshift mechanism - Replace defective parts.
Unadjusted or worn clutch - Clutch needs to be adjusted or changed.

Transmission fluid leaking

High transmission fluid level - Drain the excess fluid.
Seals or gaskets are broken - Replace worn seal or gaskets.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
Hydrostatic transmission noise

Low transmission oil level or contaminated oil - Fill to required level or change the transmission oil.
Speed control pedal linkage is bent or not adjusted - Replace or adjust linkage.
Relief valve malfunction - Replace relief valve.
Transmission overload - Reduce transmission load.
Damaged or worn components of hydrostatic transmission - Change or repair defective parts.

Loss of power

Transmission oil insufficient - Fill up the transmission oil.
Relief valve is stuck - Replace valve as required.
Speed control linkage is worn or unadjusted - Repair or adjust linkage.

Hot transmission oil

Low oil level - Fill up the transmission oil.
Dirty transmission fluid filter element - Service or replace the transmission fluid filter.
Cooling components are defective or plugged - Check all cooling components and clean or replace if required.
Excessive transmission load - The load should be reduced.

Transmission oil leaks

Damaged gaskets or seals - Install new seal or gaskets.
High internal transmission case pressure - Repair or replace damaged components.
Clogged oil drain line - Clean or replace drain line.

Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
Insufficient hydraulic oil pressure

Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Clean the hydraulic filter element or replace if necessary.
Hydraulic pump failure - Repair or replace hydraulic fluid pump.
Hydraulic control valve is set improperly - The control valve must be set correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.
Leaks in hydraulic lines - Identify leaks in the system and repair it.

Hydraulic system is overheated

Damaged main relief valve - Change relief valve.
Wrong type of hydraulic oil - Pour the correct type of hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic oil is contaminated - Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil.
Air in hydraulic lines - Bleed hydraulic lines.

3-point hitch fails to lift or lifts slowly

Hitch is under excessive load - Reduce loading.
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Hydraulic fluid filter element is clogged - Service the hydraulic filter or change if required.
Defective hydraulic pump - Change or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Damaged main relief valve - Relief valve must be changed.
Hydraulic control valve is defective - Repair or change the valve.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Change or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Suction pipe is disconnected or broken - Connect or replace pipe.

3-point hitch won't lower or lowers slowly

Incorrect adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Adjust the spool valve correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Repair or replace hydraulic cylinder.
3-point hitch is out of adjustment - Adjust 3-point hitch as required.
Damaged hitch cross shaft - Install a new shaft.

Jerky lowering or lifting of the hitch

There is air in the hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Hydraulic oil is dirty - Hydraulic oil change required.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Change or repair hydraulic fluid pump.
Hydraulic spool valve block is defective - Repair or change the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is faulty - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.

Steering Troubleshooting
Hard Steering

Incorrectly installed or worn steering column - Install the steering column correctly or replace it.
Air in steering hydraulic system - Bleed the system of air.
Not adjusted toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Front tyres wear unevenly - Change the tyres.
Worn steering pump - Check the steering pump and replace if necessary.
Pump flow control valve is stuck or damaged - Service or replace flow control valve.
Steering fluid insufficient - Check and refill steering fluid.

Steering wheel has too much free-play

Worn steering column coupling or shaft - Change defective component.
Steering pump malfunction - Repair or replace steering pump.
Steering linkage assembly is worn or loose - Check and change as required.

Front wheels wander to right or left

Uneven wear on front tyres - Replace the tyres.
Incorrect toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Steering linkage parts are loose or worn - Replace or repair steering linkage.
Defective or improperly adjusted front wheel bearings - Change or adjust the bearings properly.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery does not charge

Loose or corroded electrical wiring connections - Service or tighten connections.
Defective battery terminal clamps - Install new terminal clamps.
Dead cell in battery - Battery replacement required.
Loose or defective belt - Change belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter turns slow

Battery voltage is low - Battery is drained, charge it.
Battery will not hold charge - Battery needs service or replacement.
Battery cables are disconnected or terminals are faulty - Connect cables correctly or replace terminals.

Starter doesn't crank

Battery is low or faulty - Recharge or change battery.
Wiring harness is disconnected or improperly connected - Check wiring harness and connect as required.
Battery power is low - Battery is drained, charge it.
Starter motor failing - Repair or replace starter.
