Mahindra 3215 Troubleshooting

The Mahindra 3215 is a 4-wheel drive compact utility tractor from 15 Series. This model was manufactured by Mitsubishi built from 2006 to 2008. The Mahindra 3215 tractor is powered by 91.3 cu.in (1.5 L) Mitsubishi S3L3 three-cylinder vertical indirect injection turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 32 hp (24 kW). The Mahindra 3215 is fitted with a two transmission options: synchronized shuttle transmission with 8 forward and 8 reverse gears, or hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears.

The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 14.4 mph (23 km/h) and 10.1 mph (16.2 km/h). The open center hydraulic system has a gear pump with a rated capacity of 7.4 gpm (28 lpm). The tractors are equipped with 7.00x16 (AG) or 27x8.5-15 (Industrial) front tires and 11.2x24 (AG) or 15.0x19.5 (Industrial) rear tires. The wheelbase is 69" (1750 mm). Compatible attachments for the tractor: Mahindra ML106 front end-loader with a lift capacity to maximum height of 1410 lbs (640 kg).

Diesel Engine Troubleshooting
Engine difficult to start or doesn't start

Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel filter element clogging - Service the filter.
Faulty fuel injection nozzles - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Incorrect valve clearance - Correct valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump damage - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.

Engine starts but then stalls

Air filter is dirty - Service or replace the air filter.
Clogged fuel filter - Change filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Defective fuel injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Replace or rebuild injection pump.

Engine stops unexpectedly during operation

Low coolant temperature - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Fuel filter plugged - Replace the filter element.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Set up as recommended.

Engine stalling at idle

Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Adjust low idle speed.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Replace injection pump or repair it.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Valve clearance is not correct - Check and adjust as required.

Diesel engine loses power

Air filter plugged - Change air filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Correct the pressure settings.
Excessive valve clearance - Have it adjusted.
Incorrect low idle setting - Adjustment required.
Fuel hoses or lines are dirty - Clean fuel system lines and hoses.
Cylinder head gasket is worn - Replace cylinder head gasket.
Worn or damaged piston rings - Install new piston rings.

Engine is overheated

Engine has a lack of coolant - The cooling system needs to be refilled and checked for faults.
Engine oil level is low - Need to add engine oil.
Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator core - Replace cap or clean radiator.
Loose or damaged fan belt - Change as required.
Engine overload - Change to lower gear or reduce load.

Oil pressure too low

Oil level is low - Fill the crankcase with oil.
Dirty oil filter element - Service or replace engine oil filter.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Fill up with the proper oil viscosity.
Incorrect oil clearance in main bearing - Install new bearings.
Oil pump is damaged - Check and replace if necessary.

Engine noise or knocking

Low engine oil level - Fill up the engine oil.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Improper fuel injection timing - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjustment required.
Defective fuel injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Connecting rod is not aligned or worn - Connecting rod must be aligned or replaced.
Worn or scored pistons - Install new pistons.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Transmission oil pressure is insufficient

Low fluid level - Check and refill the transmission fluid.
Dirty transmission oil filter element (if equipped) - Service or change transmission oil filter.
Relief valve is damaged - Install a new valve.

Transmission is excessively noisy

Lack of transmission fluid - Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
Transmission fluid is dirty - Transmission fluid change required.
Damaged gears or incorrect backlash - Adjust backlash correctly or replace the gears.
Bearings are damaged or worn - Faulty bearings should be changed.
Worn or damaged gear shift forks - Change defective shift forks.
Shaft splines are worn or stuck - Change the shaft.

Difficult to shift gears

Gear shift linkage is corroded or worn - Change or lubricate shift linkage.
Damaged or worn gear shift forks - Change defective shift forks.
Defective parts in the gearshift mechanism - Replace defective parts.
Worn or improperly adjusted clutch - Clutch adjustment or replacement required.

Transmission fluid leakage

High transmission oil level - Correct the oil level.
Worn seals or gaskets - Change defective seal or gaskets.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
HST transmission noise

Contaminated transmission fluid or low fluid level - Fill to required level or change the fluid.
Defective or not adjusted speed control pedal linkage - Replace or adjust linkage.
Stuck relief valve - Install a new valve.
Transmission overloaded - Load needs to be reduced.
Transmission parts are worm or defective - After disassembly and inspection, replace defective components.

Loss of power

Transmission fluid level is low - Check and refill the transmission fluid.
Relief valve malfunction - Replace valve as required.
Worn or unadjusted speed control linkage - Adjust or repair linkage.

Transmission overheats

Transmission fluid insufficient - Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
Transmission oil filter is clogged - Clean or change transmission oil filter.
Cooling components are damaged or clogged - Check all cooling components and clean or replace if required.
Transmission is under excessive load - Reduce loading.

Transmission fluid leaking

Broken seals or gaskets - Replace worn gaskets or seal.
High internal transmission case pressure - Change defective components.
Oil return tube is plugged - Clean or replace the tube.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting
Hydraulic fluid pressure too low

Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Need to add oil.
Dirty hydraulic oil filter element - Replace hydraulic filter element or service if necessary.
Hydraulic pump not working - Install a new hydraulic fluid pump.
Incorrect setting hydraulic control valve block - Set correctly.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Leaks in hydraulic lines - Find leaks in the system and fix it.

Hydraulic system is too hot

Main relief valve failure - Relief valve must be changed.
Wrong type of hydraulic oil - Pour the correct type of hydraulic oil.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
There is air in the hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.

3-point hitch fails to lift or lifts slowly

Excessive loading on the hitch - The load should be reduced.
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter element - Clean the hydraulic filter or install new filter element.
Defective hydraulic pump - Repair or replace hydraulic fluid pump.
Main relief valve is defective - Relief valve need to be replaced.
Hydraulic spool valve is damaged - Repair or replace hydraulic valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is faulty - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Loose or broken suction pipe - Retighten or replace pipe.

3-point hitch does not lower or lowers very slowly

Hydraulic spool valve is not set properly - Set the spool valve properly.
Hydraulic cylinder is faulty - Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.
The hitch has not been adjusted - The three-point hitch must be adjusted.
Lift arm shaft is worn - Change the shaft.

3-point hitch jerks when lower or lift

There is air in the hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic pump not working - Install a new hydraulic fluid pump.
Damaged hydraulic control valve - Repair or change hydraulic valve.
Hydraulic cylinder not working - Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.

Steering System Troubleshooting
Difficult steering

Incorrectly assembled or damaged steering column - Reassemble the steering column correctly or change it.
Air in the hydraulic steering system - Need to bleed air.
Incorrect toe-in - Adjust toe-in wheels.
Uneven wear on front tires - Replace the tires.
Damaged hydraulic steering pump - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired.
Damaged or stuck steering pump control valve - Clean or replace control valve.
Steering oil insufficient - Check and refill steering oil.

Excessive play in steering

Steering column shaft or coupling is worn out - Change defective part.
Steering pump failure - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired.
Steering linkage parts are loose or worn - Inspect and replace as required.

Tractor is pulling to right or left

Uneven wear on front tires - Replace the tires.
Improper toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Worn or loose steering linkage joints - Check and replace as required.
Worn or incorrectly adjusted or worn front wheel bearings - Replace or adjust the bearings correctly.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge

Loose or corroded wire connections - Service or tighten connections.
Electrical terminal connectors are defective - Terminal connectors should be replaced.
Battery is worn - Use a new battery.
Loose or defective belt - Need to adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter motor turns slow

Low battery voltage - Recharge the battery.
Battery drains quickly - Battery needs to be serviced or replaced.
Wires are disconnected or battery terminals are corroded - Check wiring and clean or replace terminals.

Starter doesn't crank

Battery is low or faulty - Replace or charge as required.
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required.
Low battery power - Charge the battery.
Starter motor is defective - Starter needs to be changed.
