Mahindra 8560 Troubleshooting

The Mahindra 8560 utility tractor was manufactured between 2008 and 2020. The Mahindra 8560 driveline consists of NE479 TCI 4-cycle 4-cylinder direct injection turbocharged intercooled diesel engine and 12x12 synchro shuttle transmission. A 203.2 cubic inches (3.3 L) engine has a cylinder bore of 3.78" (96 mm), piston stroke of 4.53" (115 mm), and rated power of 83 Hp (61.5 kW). The maximum forward speed - 20 mph (32 km/h), maximum reverse speed - 19.8 mph (31.7 km/h).

The open center hydraulic system includes a gear pump with rated fluid flow of 17.0 gpm (64.5 lpm). The Mahindra 8560 is equipped with a hydrostatic power steering, wet disc brakes, 11Lx15 (2WD) or 11.2x24 (4WD) front tyres, and 16.9x30 rear tyres. The wheelbase is 85.3" (2165 mm) for 2-wheel drive models and 85.8" (2180 mm) for 4-wheel drive models. The tractor is compatible with Mahindra ML485 front loader with lift capacity to full height of 3610 lbs (1640 kg), and breakout force of 5115 lbs (2325 kg).

Diesel Engine Troubleshooting
Diesel hard to start or doesn't start

Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel filter plugged - Service or replace the filter.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Check and adjust.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Replace or repair injection pump.

Engine starts and stalls suddenly

Dirty air filter - Clean or replace element.
Fuel filter plugging - Replace filter element.
Poor fuel injection pump tightness - Look for any leaks of fuel pump Tighten it fast.
Defective fuel injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Install a new fuel pump or repair.

Engine stalls while running

Coolant temperature is low - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.

Engine stalls when idling

Incorrect low idle setting - Adjustment required.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Adjust valve clearance.

Engine power loss

Dirty air cleaner - Clean air cleaner element.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Repair or replace injection pump.
Excessive valve clearance - Check and adjust as required.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Correct the settings.
Clogged fuel hoses or lines - Fuel hoses and lines must be clean.
Cylinder-head gasket is broken - Install a new gasket.
Piston rings are worn or damaged - Install new piston rings.

Engine is overheated

Lack of engine coolant - Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks.
Low engine oil level - Fill up the engine oil.
Clogged radiator core or damaged radiator cap - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Fan belt is broken or worn - Replace the fan belt.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure too low

Not enough oil in the engine - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Clogged oil filter - Service or replace engine oil filter.
Incorrect engine oil Use the specified type of engine oil.
Incorrect crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Bearings need to be reinstalled.
Defective oil pump - Repair or change.

Engine knocks or noises

Not enough engine oil - Fill up the oil to required level.
Low coolant temperature - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Adjust as recommended.
Too low idle RPM - Adjustment required.
Fuel injector fault - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Connecting rod is not aligned or worn - Connecting rod needs to be aligned or changed.
Piston wear or scoring - Install new pistons.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Low transmission fluid pressure

Lack of transmission oil supply - Fill up the transmission oil.
Plugged transmission oil filter (if equipped) - Service or change transmission oil filter.
Stuck relief valve - Install a new relief valve.

Transmission makes excessive noise

Transmission fluid insufficient - Fill the transmission housing to proper fluid level.
Transmission oil is dirty - Fill up with fresh transmission oil.
Gears are damaged or backlash is incorrect - Replace defective gears or set backlash properly.
Worn or damaged bearings - Bearings replacement required.
Worn or bent gear shift forks - Shift forks need to be replaced.
Damaged or worn shaft splines - Replace the shaft.

Hard to shift gears

Gear shift linkage is worn or rusty - Change or lubricate shift linkage.
Shift forks are worn or bent - Change the shift forks.
Defective parts in the gearshift mechanism - Replace defective parts.
Improperly adjusted or worn clutch - Change or adjust clutch.

Transmission oil leaks

Transmission fluid level is high - Correct the fluid level.
Damaged seals or gaskets - Replace worn seal or gaskets.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting
Low hydraulic system pressure

Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Hydraulic filter maintenance required.
Damaged hydraulic pump - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Not adjusted hydraulic control valve - Need to adjust.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.
Leaking hydraulic lines - Inspect hydraulic system for leaks and repair it.

Hydraulic system is overheated

Defective main relief valve - Relief valve replacement required.
Hydraulic oil type is improper - Fill up with the proper type of oil.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

3-point hitch won't lift or lifts slowly

Hitch is under excessive load - Reduce loading.
Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Dirty hydraulic fluid filter element - Hydraulic filter maintenance required.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Defective main relief valve - Relief valve need to be replaced.
Defective hydraulic control valve block - Replace or repair the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Repair or replace hydraulic cylinder.
Loose or broken suction line - Tighten the pipe or replace it.

3-point hitch won't lower or lowers slowly

Hydraulic control valve is out of adjustment - Need to make adjustment.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.
Three-point hitch is out of adjustment - Need to make adjustments.
Worn hitch cross shaft - Change the shaft.

3-point hitch jerks when lower or lift

Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from system.
Dirty hydraulic oil - The oil must be changed.
Hydraulic pump is defective - Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump.
Faulty hydraulic control valve - Repair or replace the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Repair or replace hydraulic cylinder.

Steering Troubleshooting
Steering wheel is hard to turn

Incorrectly mounted or defective steering column - Mount the steering column correctly or replace it.
Air in the hydraulic steering system - Bleed air.
Not adjusted toe-in - Check toe-in and correct.
Front tyres are worn unevenly - Install new tyres.
Steering pump stopped working - Replace or repair steering pump.
Pump flow control valve is damaged or stuck - Replace or service control valve.
Not enough steering fluid - Fill up steering fluid to required level.

Excessive play in steering

Steering column coupling or shaft is extremely worn out - Replace defective component.
Steering pump is worn - Repair or replace steering pump.
Steering linkage joints are worn or loose - Repair or change steering linkage.

Tractor pulls to right or left

Uneven tyre pressure - Inflate the tyres properly.
Incorrect toe-in - Check toe-in and correct.
Loose or worn steering linkage parts - Repair or change steering linkage.
Front wheel bearings are damaged or incorrectly adjusted - Change or adjust the bearings properly.

Electrical System Troubleshooting
Battery will not charge

Loose or corroded cable connections - Tighten or clean connections.
Electrical terminal connectors are defective - Change terminal connectors.
Battery bad cell - Install a new battery.
Damaged or loose belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or changed.

Starter turning slow

Battery capacity is low - Recharge the battery.
Battery is not holding charge - Service or replace the battery.
Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables - Check wire connections and change or service terminals.

Starter motor is not working

Battery is discharged or defective - Charge or change the battery.
Wire harness is disconnected or incorrectly connected - Check wire harness and connect as required.
Low battery voltage - Recharge the battery.
Starter motor is defective - Change or repair starter.
