Mahindra eMax 22S Troubleshooting

The Mahindra eMax 22S is a 4-wheel drive sub-compact utility tractor. This model was manufactured from 2017 to 2019. The Mahindra eMax 22S tractor is powered by 61.5 cu.in (1.0 L) Daedong 3C100LF 4-cycle 3-cylinder inline indirect injection diesel engine with a rated power of 22 Hp (16.4 kW). The Mahindra eMax 22S is fitted with a two transmission options: gear transmission with 6 forward and 2 reverse gears, or hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears.

The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 10.2 mph (16.4 km/h) and 10 mph (16 km/h). The open center hydraulic system has a gear pump with a rated capacity of 4.5 gpm (17 lpm). The tractors are equipped with 6.00x12 (AG) or 20x8.00-10 (Turf) front tires and 9.50x16 (AG) or 29x12.50-15 (Turf) rear tires. The wheelbase is 57" (1450 mm). Compatible attachments for the tractor: 60" mid-mount 3-blade side discharge Mahindra 25M mower deck with cutting height of 1-4" (25-102 mm), Mahindra eMax 25L front end-loader with a maximum lift height of 75.3" (1910 mm), and Mahindra eMax 26B backhoe with max digging depth of 76.3" (1940 mm).

Diesel Engine Troubleshooting
Engine hard to start or doesn't start

Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel filter element clogging - Replace filter element.
Clogged or burnt injection nozzle - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Excessive valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Replacement or repair required.

Engine starts but stops suddenly

Air cleaner is dirty - Change air filter element.
Dirty fuel filter - Service the filter.
Fuel injection pump leakage - Check the fuel injection pump for leaks and fix it.
Fuel injector fault - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Install a new fuel pump or repair.

Engine stalls after running

Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Change the filter element.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Clogged injection nozzle - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stops while idle

Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust low idle speed.
Fuel injection pump is not operating properly - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Valve out of adjustment - Have it adjusted.

Engine power is reduced

Clogged air filter element - Clean or change.
Faulty fuel injection nozzles - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Insufficient fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly.
The valve clearance is incorrect - Adjust valve clearance.
Low idle speed setting is not correct - Normalize low idle speed.
Fuel hoses or lines are clogged - Service fuel hoses and lines.
Cylinder head gasket is worn - Cylinder-head gasket replacement required.
Piston rings are worn or defective - Change piston rings.

Engine overheats

Lack of engine coolant - Fill the cooling system and check components for leaks or other faults.
Engine oil insufficient - Fill up the engine oil.
Dirty radiator core or faulty radiator cap - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Fan belt slipping or worn - Change as required.
Engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Low oil pressure

Engine oil level low - Need to add oil.
Oil filter clogging - Replace or service engine oil filter.
Incorrect engine oil Drain and refill with oil of correct grade and viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing oil clearance is incorrect - Bearing needs to be changed.
Defective oil pump - Check and replace if necessary.

Engine noise or knocking

Engine oil level is low - Need to add engine oil.
Engine is cold - Warm up to required temperature.
Improper fuel injection timing - Adjust as recommended.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Need to adjust idle speed.
Fuel injector fault - Replace fuel injectors.
Connecting rod misalignment or failure - Connecting rod needs to be aligned or changed.
Broken or worn pistons - Pistons need to be replaced.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Transmission fluid pressure is insufficient

Transmission fluid insufficient - Check and refill the transmission fluid.
Dirty transmission fluid filter (if fitted) - Clean or change transmission fluid filter.
Relief valve is stuck - Change the valve.

Transmission noise

Insufficient transmission oil - Check transmission oil level and add oil as required.
Transmission oil is contaminated - Transmission oil change required.
Gears are defective or backlash is improper - Replace defective gears or set backlash properly.
Worn or broken bearings - Install new bearings.
Damaged or worn gear shift forks - Replace the shift forks.
Shaft splines are worn or damaged - Replace defective shaft.

Hard shifting

Gear shift linkage is rusty or worn - Replace or lubricate the shift linkage.
Worn or damaged gear shift forks - Replace defective shift forks.
Defective parts in the gearshift mechanism - Replace defective parts.
Unadjusted or worn clutch - Adjust or replace the clutch.

Transmission fluid leaks

Transmission fluid level is high - Correct the fluid level.
Damaged gaskets or seals - Replace worn seal or gaskets.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
HST transmission is excessively noisy

Contaminated transmission fluid or low fluid level - Top up to proper level or change transmission fluid.
Speed control pedal linkage is bent or not adjusted - Adjust or install new linkage.
Defective relief valve - Change the valve.
Transmission overloaded - Reduce the load is required.
Defective or worn transmission parts - Check hydrostatic transmission components for defect or damage and change if necessary.

Power is insufficient

Insufficient transmission oil - Check transmission oil level and add oil as required.
Stuck relief valve - Replace valve as required.
Worn or unadjusted speed control linkage - Adjust or replace linkage.

Transmission fluid overheats

Transmission oil insufficient - Check and refill the transmission oil.
Transmission oil filter is dirty - Clean or change transmission oil filter.
Clogged or damaged cooling components - Check all cooling components and change or repair if required.
Transmission overloaded - The load should be reduced.

Transmission oil leaks

Damaged seals or gaskets - Change defective seal or gaskets.
High internal transmission housing pressure - Check transmission parts for damage or wear and replace if required.
Plugged oil return tube - Clean or replace return tube.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting
Hydraulic fluid pressure too low

Low hydraulic fluid level - Add fluid as required.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter element - Hydraulic filter maintenance required.
Hydraulic pump not working - Change or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Not adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Need to adjust spool valve.
Faulty hydraulic cylinder - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.
Leaking hydraulic pipes - Find leaks in the system and fix it.

Hydraulic system is too hot

Main relief valve malfunctioning - Install a new relief valve.
Improper hydraulic fluid type - Use the proper type of hydraulic fluid.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

Hitch not raising or hitch raises slowly

Excessive load on hitch - Load needs to be reduced.
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Service the hydraulic filter or change if required.
Hydraulic pump is faulty - Install a new hydraulic fluid pump.
Damaged main relief valve - Change relief valve.
Damaged hydraulic spool valve - Change or repair hydraulic valve.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.
Disconnected or broken suction pipe - Connect or change pipe.

Hitch fails to drop or drops slowly

Incorrect adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Adjust the spool valve correctly.
Faulty hydraulic cylinder - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
The hitch is not adjusted - Need to make adjustments.
Damaged lift arm shaft - Install a new shaft.

Hitch lower or lift is jerky

There is air in the hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Hydraulic fluid is contaminated - Fill up with new hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic pump malfunction - Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump.
Hydraulic spool valve is damaged - Replace or repair the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.

Steering Troubleshooting
Excessive effort to steer

Improperly installed or damaged steering column - Install the steering column as required or replace it.
Air in steering hydraulic system - Air-bleed steering system.
Incorrect toe-in - Adjust toe-in wheels.
Tyre pressure is uneven - Adjust the tyre pressure.
Steering pump is worn - Repair or change steering pump.
Worn or stuck pump flow control valve - Service or replace flow control valve.
Steering fluid level is low - Check fluid level and add steering fluid as required.

Steering wheel free play is excessive

Steering column shaft or coupling has maximum wear - Replace faulty part.
Hydraulic steering pump is defective - Install a new steering pump.
Worn or loose steering linkage joints - Check and change as required.

Front wheels wander to right or left

Uneven tyre pressure - Inflate the tyres properly.
Improper toe-in - Adjust toe-in wheels.
Steering linkage parts are loose or worn - Check and change as required.
Worn or incorrectly adjusted or worn front wheel bearings - Adjust correctly or install new bearings.

Electrical System Troubleshooting
Battery won’t charge

Electrical cable connections are loose or corroded - Tighten or service cable connections.
Faulty electrical terminal connectors - Install new terminal connectors.
Battery failing - Change the battery.
Belt is defective or loose - Need to adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter turning slow

Low battery power - Charge the battery.
Battery does not hold charge - Service charging system or install new battery.
Bad terminals or disconnected battery cables - Connect wiring correctly or install new terminals.

Starter will not crank

Battery is discharged or defective - Charge or change the battery.
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required.
Battery voltage is low - Recharge the battery.
Faulty starter motor - Starter needs to be replaced.
