Mahindra Max 25XL Troubleshooting

The Mahindra Max 25 XL is a four-wheel drive compact utility tractor. This model was manufactured from 2018 to 2023. The components of Mahindra Max 25XL powerline system: a 80.4 cubic inches (1.32 L) Mitsubishi S3L2 4-cycle 3-cylinder indirect injection liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 24 Hp (18.2 kW), and two-range hydrostatic transmission with infinite forward and reverse gears. The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 9.6 mph (15.5 km/h) and 5.0 mph (8.0 km/h).

The open center hydraulic system includes a gear pump with rated fluid flow of 4.6 gal/min (17.5 l/min). The Mahindra Max 25 XL is equipped with a hydrostatic power steering system, wet disc brakes, 20x8.00-10 front tyres, and 29x12.5-15 rear tyres. The wheelbase is 58.2" (1470 mm). The tractor is compatible with a 60" mid-mount 3-blade side discharge Mahindra 62M mower deck with cutting height of 1-4" (25-102 mm), Mahindra MXL25L front end-loader with a maximum lift height of 75" (1900 mm), and Mahindra 26B backhoe with maximum digging depth of 80" (2030 mm).

Diesel Engine Troubleshooting
Engine starts up hard or will not start

Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Clogged fuel filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Clogged injection nozzle - Clean or change injection nozzles.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Excessive valve clearance - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Rebuild or replace pump.

Engine starts but immediately stalls

Intake air restriction - Clean or replace the element.
Dirty fuel filter - Filter maintenance required.
Problems with fuel injection pump tightness - Inspect fuel injection pump for leaks.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Repair or install new pump.

Engine shuts off while running

Engine not warmed up - Warm up engine as required.
Clogged fuel filter - Service the filter.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged or dirty - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Improper fuel injection timing - Adjust according to specifications.

Engine stalls when idle

Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Test and adjust.
Defective fuel injection pump - Install a new fuel pump or repair.
Dirty or defective injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Valve clearance is wrong - Check and adjust as required.

Engine loses power

Dirty air cleaner - Service air cleaner.
Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Incorrect fuel injection pressure - Adjust pressure to proper level.
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Have it adjusted.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Dirty fuel lines or hoses - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Cylinder head gasket is blown - Install a new gasket.
Leaking or defective piston rings - Install new piston rings.

Engine is overheated

Low coolant level - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Engine oil level is insufficient - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Clogged radiator core or damaged radiator cap - Clean radiator or install new cap.
Broken or loose fan belt - Belt replacement is recommended.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Reduce load on the engine.

Oil pressure is low

Engine oil insufficient - Fill up the engine oil.
Oil filter clogged - Change or service engine oil filter.
Different type of engine oil - Use proper viscosity oil.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Bearing needs to be changed.
Worn oil pump - Inspect and change as required.

Engine noise or knocking

Not enough engine oil - Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Adjust the pump as required.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Need to adjust idle speed.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Connecting rod is misaligned or worn - Connecting rod needs to be replaced or aligned.
Broken or worn pistons - Replace the pistons.

Hydrostatic Transmission Troubleshooting
Excessive HST transmission noise

Contaminated transmission fluid or low fluid level - Top up to proper level or change transmission fluid.
Speed control pedal linkage is bent or not adjusted - Adjust or replace linkage.
Relief valve is damaged - Change the valve.
Excessive transmission load - Reduce loading.
Worn or defective transmission components - Check internal transmission parts for damage or wear and replace if required.

Power is insufficient

Transmission oil insufficient - Need to add transmission oil.
Relief valve failure - Replace the valve.
Worn or out of adjustment speed control linkage - Change or adjust linkage.

Transmission fluid overheating

Low oil level - Fill the transmission housing to proper oil level.
Dirty transmission fluid filter - Clean or change transmission fluid filter.
Damaged or clogged cooling components - Inspect all cooling components and replace or clean if necessary.
Excessive transmission load - Load needs to be reduced.

Transmission oil leakage

Seals or gaskets are broken - Install new seal or gaskets.
Internal transmission housing pressure is too high - Replace worn components.
Oil return tube is plugged - Clean or replace the tube.

Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
Hydraulic oil pressure is insufficient

Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Dirty hydraulic oil filter element - Change hydraulic filter element or clean if necessary.
Defective hydraulic pump - Repair or replace hydraulic fluid pump.
Incorrect adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Adjust the spool valve correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Change or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Hydraulic piping is leaking - Check the system and repair leaks.

Hydraulic system overheated

Defective main relief valve - Relief valve must be changed.
Wrong hydraulic fluid type - Pour the proper type of fluid.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding.

Hitch not raising or hitch raises slowly

Excessive hitch loading - Load needs to be reduced.
Hydraulic oil level low - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Clogged hydraulic fluid filter - Service or replace the hydraulic filter.
Hydraulic pump not working - Replace or repair hydraulic fluid pump.
Damaged main relief valve - Relief valve must be changed.
Faulty hydraulic control valve - Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it.
Hydraulic cylinder not working - Change or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Disconnected or broken suction line - Change or connect properly.

3-point hitch can't drop or drops too slowly

Hydraulic control valve is set improperly - The control valve must be set correctly.
Defective hydraulic cylinder - Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.
The hitch is not adjusted - Adjustment is required.
Lift arm shaft is damaged - Change the shaft.

Hitch lower or lift is jerky

Air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding.
Dirty hydraulic oil - The oil must be changed.
Hydraulic pump failure - Install a new hydraulic oil pump.
Defective hydraulic control valve block - Replace or repair the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.

Steering Troubleshooting
Hard Steering

Incorrectly assembled or damaged steering column - Reassemble the steering column correctly or change it.
Air in steering hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.
Improper toe-in - Check toe-in and correct.
Tyre pressure is uneven - Adjust the tyre pressure.
Steering pump failure - Steering pump needs to be repaired or replaced.
Pump flow control valve is worn or stuck - Replace or clean flow control valve.
Low steering oil level - Fill up the steering oil.

Steering wheel has too much free-play

Worn steering column coupling or shaft - Change faulty component.
Damaged hydraulic steering pump - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired.
Steering linkage components are loose or worn - Inspect and change as required.

Tractor is pulling to left or right

Tyre pressure is uneven - Adjust the tyre pressure.
Not adjusted toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Loose or worn steering linkage components - Inspect and replace as required.
Front wheel bearings are defective or improperly adjusted - Adjust correctly or replace bearings.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery will not charge

Loose or corroded cable connections - Tighten or clean electrical wiring connections.
Defective battery terminal clamps - Terminal clamps should be changed.
Faulty cell in battery - Change the battery.
Loose or worn belt - Adjust belt tension or change the belt.

Starter turns slow

Low battery power - Charge the battery.
Battery is draining quickly - Service charging system or install new battery.
Disconnected battery cables or bad terminals - Check cables and service or change terminals.

Starter is not working

Battery is drained or worn - Recharge or change battery.
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required.
Battery capacity is low - Battery is drained, charge it.
Starter motor failing - Change or repair starter.
