Mahindra 6000 Troubleshooting

The Mahindra 6000 is a 2WD or 4WD utility tractor. This model was manufactured from 2001 to 2008. The Mahindra 6000 tractor is powered by 194.7 cu.in (3.2 L) NE457R four-cycle four-cylinder vertical direct injection liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 59 Hp (44 kW). The Mahindra 6000 is fitted with a two transmission options: constant mesh transmission with 8 forward and 2 reverse gears, or synchomesh shuttle transmission with 8 forward and 8 reverse gears.

The maximum travel speed (forward/reverse): 19.2 mph (30.9 km/h) and 19.5 mph (31.4 km/h). The open center hydraulic system has a gear pump with a rated capacity of 11 gpm (41.7 lpm). The 2-wheel drive models are equipped with 9.5Lx15 front tires and 16.9x28 rear tires. The 11.2x24 front tires and 16.9x28 rear tires are used for 4-wheel drive tractors. Compatible attachments for the tractor: Mahindra ML260 front end-loader with a lift capacity to full height of 2400 lbs (1090 kg), or Mahindra ML265 front end-loader with a lift capacity to full height of 3150 lbs (1430 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting
Diesel engine hard to start or doesn't start

There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Dirty fuel filter - Clean or change the filter.
Clogged or burnt injection nozzle - Replace injection nozzles.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Replacement or repair required.

Diesel starts and stops

Air filter is dirty - Change air filter element.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Replace the filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Dirty or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Install a new fuel pump or repair.

Engine shuts off suddenly while running

Engine is cold - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter element clogging - Clean the filter element.
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Clogged or burnt injection nozzle - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stalls at low idle speed

Too low idle RPM - Correct the settings.
Fuel injection pump failure - Change or repair the pump.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance.

Engine power is reduced

Air filter is clogged - Clean or replace the element.
Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Fuel injection pressure is incorrect - Adjust to correct pressure.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjustment procedure required.
Incorrect low idle setting - Adjustment required.
Fuel hoses or lines clogging - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Leaking cylinder head gasket - Install a new gasket.
Piston rings are worn or defective - Piston rings need to be replaced.

Engine overheating

Lack of engine coolant - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Engine oil level is low - Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
Dirty radiator core or faulty radiator cap - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Loose or damaged fan belt - Change as required.
Engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure too low

Not enough oil in the engine - Check and refill the oil.
Dirty oil filter - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Incorrect engine oil Use correct viscosity oil.
Incorrect crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Change bearings.
Oil pump malfunction - Remove and inspect oil pump.

Abnormal engine noise or knocking

Low engine oil level - Fill up the engine oil.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up the engine.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Normalize low idle speed.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Connecting rod is misaligned or worn - Align or replace connecting rod.
Piston wear or scoring - Pistons replacement required.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Low transmission oil pressure

Transmission fluid insufficient - Add fluid to the transmission housing.
Clogged transmission oil filter element (if fitted) - Service or replace the transmission oil filter.
Relief valve failure - Replace the valve.

Transmission noise

Low oil level - Fill the transmission housing to proper oil level.
Transmission oil contamination - Fill up with fresh transmission oil.
Worn gears or incorrect backlash - Replace gears or adjust backlash correctly.
Worn or cracked bearings - Bearings replacement required.
Worn or damaged gear shift forks - Shift forks need to be replaced.
Shaft splines are worn or stuck - Change defective shaft.

Gears are hard to shift

Stuck or worn gear shift linkage - Replace or lubricate the shift linkage.
Worn or bent gear shift forks - Install new shift forks.
Worn out parts of the gearshift mechanism - Replace worn parts.
Worn or improperly adjusted clutch - Change or adjust clutch.

Transmission oil leaks

High transmission fluid level - Drain the excess fluid.
Worn seals or gaskets - Change defective gaskets or seal.

Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
Hydraulic oil pressure too low

Hydraulic oil level low - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter - Replace filter element or clean if required.
Hydraulic pump not working - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Hydraulic control valve block is set improperly - Set properly.
Broken hydraulic cylinder - Repair or replace hydraulic cylinder.
Hydraulic piping is leaking - Find leaks in the system and fix it.

Hydraulics overheating

Faulty main relief valve - Change relief valve.
Hydraulic fluid type is wrong - Use correct type of hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic fluid contamination - Change hydraulic fluid.
Air in hydraulic lines - Bleed hydraulic lines.

Hitch can't lift or lifts too slowly

Heavy load on the hitch - The load should be reduced.
Hydraulic fluid is insufficient - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter element - Change hydraulic filter element or clean if necessary.
Hydraulic pump is defective - Replace or repair hydraulic fluid pump.
Faulty main relief valve - Relief valve need to be replaced.
Hydraulic spool valve is damaged - Repair or replace hydraulic valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is broken - Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.
Suction line is disconnected or broken - Replace or connect correctly.

Hitch cannot be lowered or lowering is too slowly

Not adjusted hydraulic spool valve - Need to adjust spool valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is broken - Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.
The three-point hitch is not adjusted - The three-point hitch must be adjusted.
Damaged hitch cross shaft - Replace the shaft.

3-point hitch jerks when lower or lift

Air in hydraulic lines - Bleed hydraulic lines.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Hydraulic pump failure - Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump.
Hydraulic control valve block is damaged - Repair or replace the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder is broken - Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.

Steering Troubleshooting
Steering wheel is hard to turn

Damaged or incorrectly assembled steering column - Replace steering column or assemble correctly.
Air in steering hydraulic system - Bleed air.
Incorrect toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Tyre pressure is uneven - Adjust the tyre pressure.
Steering pump failure - Repair or change steering pump.
Pump flow control valve is damaged or stuck - Flush or change flow control valve.
Lack of steering oil - Fill the steering system with oil.

Excessive play in steering

Steering column shaft or coupling is worn out - Change faulty component.
Hydraulic steering pump is defective - Check the hydraulic steering pump and change if necessary.
Steering linkage components are loose or worn - Inspect and change as required.

Tractor is pulling to left or right

Tyre pressure is uneven - Adjust the tyre pressure.
Improper toe-in - Check and adjust toe-in.
Worn or loose steering linkage assembly - Repair or change steering linkage.
Front wheel bearings are worn or incorrectly adjusted - Install new bearings or adjust it correctly.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery cannot be charged

Wiring connections are corroded or loose - Tighten or clean connections.
Electrical terminal connectors are faulty - Replace terminal connectors.
Battery dead cell - Change the battery.
Loose or damaged belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or changed.

Starter turns slowly

Low battery capacity - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Battery does not hold charge - Service charging system or install new battery.
Disconnected battery cables or bad terminals - Connect cables properly or replace terminals.

Starter doesn't crank

Battery is discharged or defective - Recharge or change battery.
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required.
Low battery capacity - Recharge the battery.
Starter motor is damaged - Repair or change starter.
