Case IH 895 Troubleshooting

The Case IH 895 is a 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive utility tractor from 95-series. This model was manufactured between 1991 and 1994. Case IH 895 tractor is powered by Case International D268 four-cylinder direct injection diesel engine with a maximum power of 84 hp (62.5 kW) and 296 Nm (219.1 lb-ft) of max torque at 1300 rpm.

The Case IH 895 is fitted with 3 transmission options: 8x4 partially synchronized transmission, 8x8 synchronized shuttle transmission, or partial powershift transmission with 16 forward and 8 reverse gears.

The max. forward speed - 19.8 mph (31.7 kph), a maximum reverse speed - 6.2 mph (10 kph). The open center hydraulic system used a gear pump with flow of 15.8 gpm (59.8 lpm). The main relief pressure is 173 bar (2500 psi). The Case IH 895 is fitted with 7.50x16 front tires and 16.9x24 rear tires. The tractor can be equipped with Case 2250 loader with a max lift height of 123" (3120 mm) and breakout force of 3500 lbs (1587 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine difficult to start or will not start

There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel filter plugged - Service or replace the filter.
Damaged or dirty injection nozzles - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Valve clearance is not correct - Check and adjust.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Repair or install a new fuel pump.

Engine starts and immediately shuts off

Dirty air cleaner - Service air cleaner.
Dirty fuel filter - Change filter element.
Problems with fuel injection pump tightness - Inspect fuel injection pump for leaks.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is not working correctly - Replace injection pump or repair it.

Engine stalls while running

Low coolant temperature - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Filter maintenance required.
Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Improper fuel injection timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.

Engine stalls at idle

Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Correct low idle settings.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Replace or rebuild injection pump.
Clogged or defective injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Valve clearance is wrong - Check and adjust.

Engine power is too low

Dirty air cleaner - Service or replace the air filter.
Defective or clogged injection nozzle - Replace injection nozzles.
Improper fuel injection pressure - Check the fuel injection pressure and adjust if necessary.
Incorrect valve clearance - Check and adjust.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Test and adjust.
Fuel lines or hoses are dirty - Clean fuel system hoses and lines.
Cylinder head gasket is worn - Cylinder-head gasket replacement required.
Leaking or damaged piston rings - Piston rings need to be replaced.

Engine overheats

Low engine coolant - Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks.
Engine oil level is low - Need to add engine oil.
Dirty radiator core or faulty radiator cap - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Loose or damaged fan belt - Replace as required.
Engine overloaded - Change to lower gear or reduce load.

Oil pressure is low

Oil level is insufficient - Fill crankcase to proper oil level.
Oil filter element clogging - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is wrong - Use the specified type of engine oil.
Crankshaft bearing has incorrect oil clearance - Bearing replacement required.
Defective oil pump - Install a new pump.

Engine noises or knocks

Engine oil level is insufficient - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust the pump as required.
Incorrect low idle setting - Test and adjust.
Clogged or defective injectors - Replace fuel injectors.
Connecting rod is misaligned or defective - Connecting rod must be aligned or replaced.
Worn or broken pistons - Pistons replacement required.

Transmission Troubleshooting
Transmission oil pressure is low

Insufficient transmission fluid - Check and refill the transmission fluid.
Transmission oil filter is dirty (if equipped) - Service or change transmission oil filter.
Stuck relief valve - Install a new valve.

Excessive transmission noise

Insufficient transmission oil - Fill up the transmission oil.
Transmission oil is dirty - Fill up with fresh transmission oil.
Damaged gears or incorrect backlash - Adjust backlash correctly or replace the gears.
Bearings are broken or worn - Bearings need to be replaced.
Shift forks are worn or bent - Install new shift forks.
Damaged or worn shaft splines - Change the shaft.

Hard shifting

Gear shift linkage is rusty or worn - Lubricate or replace the shift linkage.
Worn or bent shift forks - Change defective shift forks.
Gear shifting mechanism is defective - Defective parts must be replaced.
Clutch is faulty or misadjusted - Adjust correctly or replace.

Transmission oil leaks

Too much fluid in transmission - Excess fluid must be drained.
Seals or gaskets are worn - Install new components.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting
Hydraulic oil pressure too low

Hydraulic oil level low - Check and refill the hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic oil filter element is clogged - Change hydraulic filter element or clean if necessary.
Hydraulic pump is faulty - Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump.
Hydraulic control valve is not set properly - Adjust properly.
Hydraulic cylinder is faulty - Repair or replace hydraulic cylinder.
Leaks in hydraulic pipes - Identify leaks in the system and repair it.

Excessive hydraulic system heat

Main relief valve failure - Replace relief valve.
Improper type of hydraulic oil - Use the proper type of oil.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Change hydraulic fluid.
Air in hydraulic pipes - Bleed hydraulic pipes.

Hitch not raising or hitch raises slowly

Heavy load on the hitch - Reduce loading.
Low hydraulic oil level - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Change hydraulic filter element or clean if necessary.
Defective hydraulic pump - Install a new hydraulic fluid pump.
Main relief valve is faulty - Change relief valve.
Defective hydraulic control valve block - Install a new valve or repair it.
Hydraulic cylinder is broken - Change or repair hydraulic cylinder.
Suction line is broken or disconnected - Connect or replace.

Hitch cannot be dropped or dropping is too slow

Incorrect setting hydraulic control valve block - Set correctly.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder.
The three-point hitch is not adjusted - Adjust the hitch.
Worn hitch rock shaft - Replace the shaft.

Hitch jerks when drop or lift

Air in hydraulic pipes - Bleed hydraulic pipes.
Dirty hydraulic fluid - The fluid must be changed.
Defective hydraulic pump - Install a new hydraulic fluid pump.
Hydraulic spool valve is faulty - Repair or change the valve.
Hydraulic cylinder malfunction - Repair or replace hydraulic cylinder.

Steering System Troubleshooting
Steering wheel is hard to turn

Improperly assembled or defective steering column - Reassemble or change the steering column.
Air in steering system - Bleed air.
Improper toe-in - Adjust toe-in properly.
Uneven tyre pressure - Inflate the tyres properly.
Steering pump is worn - Steering pump needs to be repaired or replaced.
Damaged or stuck steering pump control valve - Replace or service control valve.
Steering oil insufficient - Check and refill steering oil.

Steering wheel free play is excessive

Worn steering column coupling or shaft - Replace faulty component.
Steering pump malfunction - Steering pump needs to be replaced or repaired.
Steering linkage parts are loose or worn - Check and replace as required.

Tractor is pulling to right or left

Tyre pressure is uneven - Adjust the tyre pressure.
Not adjusted toe-in - Check and adjust toe-in.
Loose or worn steering linkage components - Inspect and replace as required.
Incorrectly adjusted or damaged front wheel bearings - Adjust correctly or install new bearings.

Electrical Troubleshooting
Battery does not charge

Corroded or loose wire connections - Service or tighten cable connections.
Defective battery terminal clamps - Change terminal clamps.
Bad cell in battery - Change the battery.
Loose or damaged belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Starter turning slow

Low battery output voltage - Recharge the battery.
Battery will not hold charge - Battery needs service or replacement.
Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables - Check battery wires and service or replace terminals.

Starter motor is not working

Battery is low or faulty - Recharge or replace battery.
Battery wiring is disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect wiring and connect as required.
Low battery voltage - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Starter motor failing - Starter should be changed.
