Kubota L3130 Troubleshooting

The Kubota L3130 is a L30 series compact utility tractor. This model was manufactured from 2003 to 2007. The components of Kubota L3130 powerline system: Kubota D1503 4-cycle vertical 4-cylinder indirect injection diesel engine and FST sync shuttle fully synchronized transmission with 8 forward and 8 reverse gears.

A 91.5 cubic inches diesel engine power rating is 31 Hp (23 kW) and max. torque is 103 Nm (76 lb-ft) at 1800 rpm. The maximum forward speed - 19.2 mph (31 km/h), max. reverse speed - 16.0 mph (25.8 km/h). The open center hydraulic system includes a gear pump with a flow of 31.5 liters per minute (8.3 gpm).

The hydraulic pressure is 177 bar (2560 psi). The 4-wheel drive models are equipped with 7.2x16 front tyres and 12.4x24 rear tyres. The 6.0x16 front tyres and 12.4x24 rear tyres fit two wheel drive tractors. The wheelbase is 71.3" (1810 mm) for 2WD (4x2) tractors and 71.1" (1800 mm) for 4WD (4x4) tractors. Compatible front end loaders for the Kubota L3130 tractor: LA723 loader with a lift capacity to max height of 1870 lbs (848 kg), or LA513 loader with a lift capacity to max height of 1345 lbs (610 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting
Engine will not start or difficult to start
Fuel filter plugging - Service or replace the filter
No fuel supply from the tank - Open the fuel supply valve
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air
Fuel injectors are clogged or faulty - Service or change fuel injectors
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Replace injection pump or repair it
Engine has bad compression - Inspect and replace faulty parts
Engine shuts off unexpectedly while running
Engine is cold - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air

Diesel engine stalls after starting
Timing of fuel injection pump is not adjusted - Fuel pump timing settings need to be corrected
Fuel filter plugging - Clean or replace the filter
Fuel injector nozzles are dirty or defective - Service or replace injector nozzles
Fuel injection pump failure - Rebuild or replace pump
Clogged air cleaner element - Replace cleaner or install new cleaner element
Engine stalls while idle
Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Adjust the low idle speed
Fuel injection pump damage - Repair or replace injection pump
Damaged or clogged injector nozzles - Install new set of properly balanced nozzles
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Have it adjusted
Engine overheated
Engine has a lack of coolant - Fill radiator to proper level. Check and repair damage to the cooling system if required
Cooling system parts are failed or system is clogged - Change faulty components or service cooling system
Engine oil level is low - Checking oil level and add if necessary
Fan belt is defective or belt tension is not adjusted - Adjust properly or change the belt
Thermostat malfunction - Check and change if necessary
Engine power is insufficient
Fuel injectors are clogged or faulty - Service or change fuel injectors
Improper fuel injection pressure - Test fuel injection pressure and adjust it correctly
Dirty air filter - Replace or service air filter element
Dirty oil filter - Clean or change engine oil filter
Engine overload - Reduce engine load
The valve clearance is incorrect - Have it adjusted
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Correct low idle adjustment
Dirty fuel hoses or pipes - Clean fuel pipes and hoses
Engine compression too low: Leaking or faulty valves - Replace the valves as required
Engine knocking or noise
Timing of fuel injection pump is not adjusted - Fuel pump timing settings need to be corrected
Fuel injector nozzles are damaged or dirty - Install new set of properly balanced nozzles
Engine oil level is insufficient - Fill the crankcase with engine oil
Engine is cold - Warm up to required temperature
Crankshaft or main bearings failure - Change or repair worn components
Worn or broken piston rings - Replace piston rings
Loose flywheel bolts - Inspect flywheel bolts and tighten properly
High oil consumption
External oil leaks: Damaged gaskets or seals - To repair leaks, replace worn parts
Crankcase oil too light - Fill up with the proper oil viscosity
Worn or broken piston rings - Change the piston rings as required
Valve guides or stems are damaged - Need to replace the valves
Cylinder liners or pistons are scuffed - Check pistons and liners, install new parts as required


Electrical System Troubleshooting
Battery does not charge
Faulty cell in battery - Change the battery
Damaged battery wiring harness - Inspect wiring for damage, replace or repair
Loose or corroded terminals and cables - Service or tighten battery cables and terminals
Incorrect belt tension adjustment or worn belt - Install new belt or adjust belt tension as required
Starter cranks slowly
Low battery capacity - Charge the battery
Battery won’t hold charge - Service battery or replace it
Bad battery wiring harness - Inspect wiring for malfunctions, replace or repair
Corroded or loose terminals and cables - Service or tighten battery terminals and cables
Starter will not work
Low battery capacity - Low battery charging, charge as required
Drained or defective battery - Recharge or replace battery
Starter motor failing - Repair or install a new starter
Wiring is improperly connected or disconnected - Need to reconnect the wiring properly

Transmission Troubleshooting
Hard shifts
Failure or improper clutch adjustment - Replace or adjust clutch
Stuck or damaged gear shift linkage - Change or repair shift linkage
Worn or damaged shift forks - Shift forks need to be changed
Gearshift mechanism failure - Change or repair failed components
Insufficient transmission oil pressure
Lack of transmission fluid supply - Fill the transmission housing with fluid
Transmission oil filter is plugged (if fitted) - Change or clean the transmission oil filter
Faulty relief valve - Install a new relief valve
Transmission makes noise
Broken or worn bearings - Change the bearings

Hydraulic system overheats
System pressure has not been adjusted correctly - Pressure needs to be adjust correctly
Unadjusted or defective main relief valve - Replace or set up the relief valve
Contaminated hydraulic oil - Change hydraulic oil
Air leaks in hydraulic system - Inspect the pump seals, suction pipe, and fittings
Hydraulic fluid pressure too low
Not enough hydraulic oil in the system - Add oil to the hydraulic system
Hydraulic fluid filter element clogging - Service the hydraulic filter or change if required
Damaged hydraulic oil pump - Check pump capacity and change if necessary
Hydraulic control valve is not set properly or defective - Adjust correctly or replace
Defective hydraulic cylinder - Check cylinder components for damage or wear and change if necessary
Hydraulic lines are leaking - Detect leaks in hydraulic system and repair it
Hitch fails to lift or lifts slowly
Not enough hydraulic oil in the system - Fill the hydraulic system with oil

Steering System Troubleshooting
Difficult steering
Steering column is damaged or improperly mounted - Replace the steering column or mount it properly
Air leaks in steering system - Bleed the steering system
Improper toe-in - Check and adjust toe-in
Tires are improperly inflated - Inflate as necessary
Steering pump not working - Repair or change steering pump
Worn or damaged hydrostatic steering unit - Repair or replace the steering unit
Defective or stuck relief valve - Replace or service relief valve
Low steering fluid level - Fill the steering system with fluid
Oil leaks in the steering system - Retighten steering pipe and hose connections
Steering wheel has too much free-play
Steering column coupling or shaft is worn - Replace defective part

Steering tie-rod ends or linkage are worn - Replace failed component
Front wheels wander to left or right
